Jule Amps Monique part 5

Hey all, I know this is a long shot, but I just thought I would throw this out there...

I have a Monique Dove Cage, and it sounds amazing and the enclosure is beautiful. But thinking about gigging, I need something a bit more compact and portable.

So, I'd like to trade my Dove Cage for your Monique rackmount preamp or combo amp, or I could buy it outright if you prefer.

Silly question, can I take the preamp out signal from my Tardis, feed it into a modeler (QC) and send it back to the Tardis amp in? I know you can use the preamp alone, or the amp alone, but, use both “independently”?

AFAIK the owner's manual does not address this question, but it should be easy enough to figure out. Hook up your Tardis and play to make sure it working. Insert a 1/4" cable into the Amp Direct Input. If the signal from the Monique preamp is interrupted, you can use the Line Out and Amp Direct as an effects loop.

Not silly at all.

Yes.

That "amp direct" goes directly to the 700 watt amplifier. That input ignores Monique entirely.

Be example, I have heard several times of folks taking the Monique 1/4" output to an external amp (or DI to the house) while the "amp direct" is amplifying the keyboard. Works nicely.

Make sure you start out with zero level going into that "amp direct" input jack and then turn up the level to taste. If we put in too high a level immediately two unfortunate things may happen. 1. The sudden blast of 700 watts will damage the Organ of Corti of everyone in the room. 2. We can send in enough level to overload/clip the internal Interface to the amp.

In particular, since it looks like the preamp and power amp have independent power switches, what's the safest order in which to power them up and down?

Power amp always "last on" and "first off". Good general rule that also works well with my Tardis.

I believe, the power amp switch is so you can use it as a stand alone preamp.

I have a manual and will PM it to you. I believe there have been two versions of the Monique 700 so far and they are slightly different.

Probably does not matter whether we turn on the Monique side first or the Amp side first. I suppose, since the Monique side takes several minutes to warm up before it gives us anything, it is best to turn it on first. No technical advantage.

Flip the switch, and the Amp takes about 5 seconds before it starts to wake up. During those 5 seconds power supplies are coming up and the fan is starting. After that the amp takes about 5 seconds more as it runs through tests. When the Red Amp light is off and the Green is on we are ready.

Good folks have asked me why, when we turn off the amp, the RED light stays on for so long (often more than 5 minutes). The sound is off. Nothing is happening, but the RED light stays On. There are two parts to the "why?" First, the amp has massive built-in capacitors that store energy. Second, the job of the RED light is to tell us there is a serious power failure in the amp. And there is. It has been turned off.
