Jule Amps Monique part 5

There are about 400 Moniques out there right now, and not a single report of any damage due to Phantom Power. It is still a good question.
I thought I remember on the Owners Manual from Walter Woods he recommended using a Passive DI with a Jensen type transformer that way if Phantom Power was sent to amp it would not hurt it because the Transformer would prevent it getting to the amp causing damage?I would think the Cinemag Jule uses in the DI this do the same thing?

Hey, everyone. It's almost tax time, but also winter is nearly done.

There's something I considered mentioning earlier, but I wasn't sure about it. I know the claim will sound suspect. Here it is:

I believe that the Monique reduces ground hum significantly and single coil hum slightly.

Whether I'm playing a bass guitar with only single coil pickups, or one with a minor grounding problem, if I play them through another preamp (a homemade point-to-point tube preamp or The Enabler, for example), I hear to varying degrees, but always clearly, whatever hum weakness that bass has. But if I'm playing those same basses through the Monique, the hum is either reduced or effectively eliminated.

Jule, if you are reading this, know that I am not asking you to reveal any trade secrets. :D But how is this possible? Is it an artifact of your use of DC for the tubes? In any case, I have observed that hum reduction is characteristic of this preamp, and I am duly impressed.

That Monique... what a gal.
It would be great to say something that would make you feel I knew some wonderful secret, but the truth is much simpler. That big old 6SL7 front end tube by itself is very stable and less susceptible to hum than some others. That is part of it. The other part is that today, none of us will put up with the "standard" hum players in the 50's and 60' did. So the other part of the solution is the choke regulated DC filament supply. The idea was "appropriated" by me from some very pricey HI FI gear.

Thank you for noticing, and for mentioning it.

It is a pretty day in Santa Cruz.

The Cinemag folk are great people. The Jensen shop is not far from them in more ways than one. I very much appreciate what the good people of Cinemag have given us all.

Excellent, Jule. Thank you for explaining. I'll take the simple truth... no wonderful secret needed.

Please enjoy the great weather there. The weather here is awful! Some years ago, living in the Bay Area, I would ride my motorcycle down to Santa Cruz "just because", get a sandwich, then ride home. You're lucky to live in such a nice place.

My entire band noticed how much quieter my rig is with the Monique than with either my Streamliner or my old Mesa 400+. The Ric 4003 is a little bit of a noisy bass with the single coils and needs every bit of help it can get from the Mo with regards to noise. Excellent work!

Jule... any words on the "combo"? And am I correct in thinking that this is a "combination" of the M700 and a dove-cage-ish Monique?
This "integrated" Dove Cage and 700 watt amp has to happen. The immediate reality is that right now we are about six to eight weeks back logged with orders from a bunch of great people. I am very grateful. I keep expecting things to slow down. Right now everything is about putting in as many hours as can be found to keep good folk from waiting any longer. The "integrated" Dove Cage will happen.

Thanks Jule. Inquiring mind(s) wanted to know. Now get back to work!:laugh::laugh:

I just picked up a Bamboo case Monique from a buddy as he preps for his wedding. We arranged for a buy back after some months so I can order my own Monique from Jule!

I put her to work Immediately in my "trial run" period. I currently own the REDDI, which I love as well.

The Monique is different flavor in the studio. Live I think it's the best tone Ive had. (I have some studio samples I can load if You all would like) (Monique, REDDI, GT ViPre)

I'm loving this piece! I know it's on the high end of investments, but if you can swing it! I HIGHLY recommend it.

Alright guys,

I know the REDDI doesnt have enough gain to be tracked into a DAW on its own. I was not aware that the Monique CAN! When i pulled out both knobs it got me into normal tracking levels. Which actually sounded GREAT! Ill post a short clip of a video where you can hear that recording.

That being said, The demos signal chain are as follows.
AC KBP4 Classic Supreme - RC Bass -BB Bass - preamp

3 Choices are GT ViPre, REDDI and the Monique.

I was trying to be as true to a real life situation as possible. In a studio, the engineer would most likely use the the REDDI or Monique as a DI and go to an
in house preamp. So i kept that constant. THE VIPRE. Tried my best to gain stage as close as posible. We all know louder makes us think BETTER but thats not the case.
Not the most accurate A/B samples from a purist stance, but again, was going for a real life setting.

**All demos are mixes of songs im producing in my studio for different clients who did not mind me using their material for this purpose. :bassist::hyper:

Dropbox - bass demos preamps

Im not sure how long you guys want to have at it without knowing whats what... take your time, listen..I will say this...
In each demo, i had a different winner IMO. Just goes to show, OPTIONS ARE ALWAYS GOOD!

VIPRE
REDDI
MONIQUE

Beautiful work, on several levels.

Yes it does.

For both the Tardis 700 and the Rack Mount 700, a separate Amp Input that goes direct to the amp (bypassing Monique) just seemed like a good thing to do when we first started with this 700 watt amplifier. At the time I did not know how useful it would be. I have already seen it used as an interesting Effects Loop as well as for re-amping and other Studio work.

The Amp Input that goes directly to the amp is on the back of both the Tardis 700 and the Rack Mount 700 now.

You do not have to use Monique and the 700 watt amplifier together. In both 700 watt versions of the Tardis and the Rack Mount Monique you can use either Monique by herself, or the 700 watt amp by itself if that is what you want to do. This is the real world we work in, so flexibility helps.

The M700 Stand-Alone Amplifier has its own Volume Control, but beyond that it is essentially like the Amp Input on both the Rack Mount and Tardis 700s.

Hey Jule,

A couple weeks back, I was asking about the feasibility of using the Rack or Tardis 700 as a DI to the board, then board to the amp input section for FOH control of my rig. I'm still curious about it and had another question for you. Is the new amp input a balanced or unbalanced input?

Thanks
