Never gonna do it without the fez on...

I heard the place is rampant with vampires. Is that true?

Ahh yes. They called it Santa Carla instead of Santa Clara. The boardwalk et al.
Yes, that movie was very accurate.
I lived there. The residents just assume everyone knows this.

I have met some on the East Coast. They seem to have coastal characteristics similar to their human counterparts. The East coasters are more conservative, more discrete, and way way older for the most part.

Much better than "Blond Bimbo". Somehow "Monique in a Bird Cage with the Blond Bimbo" just doesn't sound right. At least not in this context. It sounds like something you'd need a whole bunch of single dollar bills for.

When I posted a pic of Monique outside of her case and wrote "Monique $aked", I was afraid of what the search engines would do and who would come here not knowing what a chaste lady she is.

A question for Mike (Oldtimer) or anybody else who has any experience with the above combination. I have a WW Ultra and Super.

Thanks in advance

It works well and sounds great! I assume you mean just using the power section of the Woods. I am currently using the power section of a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 and it also sounds great. I am not sure if I could hear the difference between different power sources. I never used the Woods power section on a gig. I have, in my studio, hooked it to a Walter Woods Ultra, Streamliner 900, Shuttle 9.0, and also a Presonus Live 16.0.2 board and out to a JBL Eon10 powered monitor. It all worked flawlessly.

We did the experiment again yesterday - swapped between Minnie and Puma power sections. Both of us could hear a difference.

I havn't done any back and forth swaps to listen critically for a difference. It was a list of various power sources I have hooked to Monique. More of an answer to whether Monique worked well with a Walter Woods.
What were your impressions of your swap with the 2 you tried?

Thanks Mike - I guess the next question is the combination (WW+Monique) a huge improvement over the Walter alone? Worth the money?

"huge Improvement" & "worth the money" are two very subjective and personal things. The D.I. is a very big thing for me, since the Woods Doesn't have one.
What do you feel you are missing From the Woods? They definitely sound very different. The Sensitivity knob, IMO, makes the Monique very different.

I'm very happy with the Woods amps but there's always that "what if" the addition of a more tube sound would be a big improvement - that's why I'm asking.

I understand a lot of this is personal preference but I figured as you have both you might have noticed a big difference, objectively, with the addition of the Monique. Like " I can't believe how much better my rig sounds" or "How did I ever do without the Monique" or" It would be worth it at twice the price" lol

I'd like to chime in here....I'm about to order my 2nd Monique; I sold my first because it was the only way to get my Fodera. I can't wait to get another, I can't even describe how sweet the sound is. And here's something else for you...the guy I sold it to sent me a message when he got it...I cut and pasted this from my PM inbox:

Hi Ken, the Monique arrived in perfect shape. It is just as you described - I can't tell it apart from new.

I fired it up and it is everything I expected and more. It sounds and feels a lot like my Ampeg B15, V4B, and SVT all rolled into an unbelievably lightweight package (I'm connecting it to the effects return of my Shuttle 9).

So I'm very happy. Thanks again for the great deal and speedy ship.

Mark

SO...if you're on the fence get Monique and never look back.

If anyone cares, I A/Bed my Monique rack with my Crest PoLite 2.0 and my Crown XTI2000 today..... Not a noticeable tonal difference to my ears.

As with any power amp, its hard to a/b without knowing the real details on the gain staging. Often times, a power amp may sound better merely because you're feeding it more effectively than another. It sounds like your two amps are roughly the same on their gain architecture. Its even more questionable when you're using amp heads as the power amp stage.

for what it's worth, i used to use a two-channel stereo woods head with an art tube compressor going in one channel and an art mic pre slightly overdriven into the other. mixed to taste. cumbersome, but kind of a cool sound. obviously not as high-flying sonically as a monique.
