Can u Monique owners comment on how Monique does with the "hi fi" thing? I know it has the Svt grunt, but for someone like myself who really digs the Marcus miller slap tone,e.g. (jazz with rounds) what does Monique do for that type of tone? I play a lot of active basses- status graphite, modulus, ken smith, etc, thanks for any opinions.

I would say that Monique DOESN'T have the SVT grunt. If you want high gain overdrive, buy a pedal to front end Monique. I love Monique but use a Sansamp BDDI for grit.

Monique does sound like a SVT... but with much more clarity. Not super modern, but more modern sounding than a SVT for sure.dfinately sounds like a tube amp in any case.

It does do slap very well. For gigs that include slap tunes, I have gigged a Fodera, Modulus Q5, Fender Jazz (4 and 5), vintage Stingray and a MIA Spector. All sounded killer for '70s funk and modern stuff like RHCP/Lenny Kravitz.

Not now. That is possible later this year. We continue to ship directly from Santa Cruz to everywhere.

Monique number 100 will find her master next month. I am proud to say that approximately 30% of her predecessors have been customers outside the U.S.

I was in a studio in Austin this week. The asst engineer had a Monique.. It sounded great! However i also brought my REDDI with me.. The Reddi got the nod to go and that is what was used on the tracks.. Now the engineer is buying a reddi this week.. It happens alot when i bring that box with me.. Tru story

Our mileage does vary. :) While I get the SVT comparisons, my experience is it's more vintage Hiwatt, Sunn 2000s (not cranked), and McIntosh tube amp like.

Besides it's own character, Monique in someways doesn't have it's own sound. Whatever I put through it sounds like that bass. The tone controls offer discrete choices of tweaking that I haven't found in SS pres or amps regardless of their basic transparency.

It's difficult to describe how Monique is totally clear with full warm syrupy blooming lows. Next it does clear punchy.
It's so touch sensitive that all techniques are rewarded.

I've had Monique now going on 3 years and I would def say it does NOT sound like an SVT. If anything, I hear a more hi-fi, clear, B-15 kind of tone. It never grunts, but can get just the slightest amount of grit while retaining this beautiful clarity and then as much thump as you need from the "low" knob....IMO obviously....but I have yet to find something Monique doesn't do well....

Thanks guys for the comments, I get the feeling that il be pleased whenever I decide to order one. Sounds like u can't do anything but improve your tone with the Monique. I already get a magnificent tone thru my euphonic audio setup, but u guys have convinced me that Monique is the bomb!

Exactly.

No transformer on the Monique Line Output. Different worlds, driving amps and such versus driving low impedance studio gear. Fun, interesting challenge. They both (like most of us) have different comfort/excitement requirements.

The balanced XLR transformer was chosen for Monique by David Geren, VP of Cinemag. Years ago, I sent him an early Monique and asked him to play/sample/determine what worked best. Another instance where I am fortunate to know people who are great at what they do. I am happy to muddle along amid the brilliance of others.

The Line Out is pure tube. Old school.

After two 8-hour days in the studio (with an engineer who smokes - uggh), a bit of fresh air for Monique. And another unsolicited "bass sounds great" from the drummer.
