JUST ORDERED A SEI 7 !!

Well I'm back from seeing Martin this week. Huge thanks to him for taking time out and answering all the questions which were put his way !!
We've made a couple of revisions to the specification.
The most drastic of these is the colour. After looking at the stunning wood and a near-finished bass, we've opted for a gloss finish; the purple has bitten the dust. The wood will do the talking !!
The hardware has now been changed from black to gold as a result of the colour change.
Lights will be violet side-dots only
Here are some more pics of the lacewood and a couple of the raw birds-eye maple. I saw a part-finished bass which had a birds-eye board and the figuring was simply stunning.

I went to see Martin earlier this week as I was down in London for my Grandparents 60th Wedding Anniversary (what a feat, they even got a congratulatory message from the Queen !!).
Anyway, nothing of my bass to see, which is what I expected but nice to pop in for a chat. Martin confirmed that this is the first Sei bass to have lacewood, so nice to be making a little landmark. Timber looks stunning. The next time I go to the shop will be in a couple of months time when the neck needs shaping.
Sei's in stock look awesome. There's a fantastic 4 string singlecut which I would have instantly if only the finances would allow !!

i popped into the shop on saturday, (i was collecting a bass that i had modded)

The pics on my build have only made mine worse
Waiting for a call in the not too distant future to look at the neck profile. Hopefully the inlays are in now as well.
If you don't mind I'll take a decent look at your lacewood when I visit, it looks cool. I'll take some more pics for you if there's been any progress by the time I get there.

The GAS isn't bad. I know it's gonna take ages, so I'm settled in for the long haul !!
The lacewood does look great. Unfortunately my poor camera skills do not do it justice !! The piece has some fantastic figuring and the size of the grain varies as well, which you'll see !!

a point - its easier to photograph wood figuring by zooming in as far as possible, and stepping back, rather than stepping in, and zooming out. i think there's a thread on wood photography by hambone.

What he means that I meant was to take a focused pic at some distance with the light on the board - outside's good. You'll have a shot of a lot of background and a small piece of wood. Crop that down to just the wood alone then resize it up to where you need it. You'll get all of the figure and it will be clear.
A little more info to add...
I'd been looking at some of the gallery pics at http://www.seibass.com and needed to check a couple of the specs for my bass.
On some Sei's at the bottom of the neck there is sometimes a little curved area which is not covered by the facings which I didn't want. Also, I wanted to check that I wasn't going to get any dots on the face of the 'board, just my signature at the 12th fret and side dots with LED's.
I put out an e-mail which Alex answered today telling me not to worry as this was specified on my order form. The facings will be full both front and back, so the neck laminates won't be seen on the body, which is what I wanted. The 'board will only have my signature with just side LED's.
OK, I might have been being a bit paranoid about these details, but I want it to be right and I'd rather ask now than when it's too late !! Thanks to Alex for answering what he might think was a dumb question....
On another note, I'd been looking at knobs at http://www.thgknobs.com I bought a friend of mine some as a birthday present last year for his new Tyler guitar. They were great, so I asked THG for a quote. A couple of months went by and I hadn't heard anything. Then Roger came back from THG saying that he'd had problems with incoming e-mail being put into various folders.
Communication back again, I gave Roger a spec and have just ordered 4 knobs, 3 for my Jackson bass and one for this project.
The spec: domed lacewood knobs with a line of dyed maple burl which is very pink. This will nicely match the veneer on the Sei and will look great on the Jackson as well. I'll save up again and order some more, but in other woods, for my Conklin GT7...

Not trying to worry you but are you sure yourself and Alex weren't talking at cross dolphins?
My Sei has a full facing front as seen on my pics BUT it does have that curved bit where the fretboard meets the body. Alex may be talking about the neck laminates going all the way down to base of the body but still think that the curved area is acceptable as per my Sei.
If I read your post right you don't won't that curved area that is on mine you want the facing wood all the way to the frets?

I described the area in the mail to Alex and I'd specified it before, so all is well. He said "fear not" !!

I haven't been able to post for a while as I've been off to Summer School which is part of my Diploma in Music Open University course. Been great, learnt a lot (neapolitan 6th anyone ??!!) and had a laugh along the way. Even played some double bass with the orchestra and choir, then it turned into a bit of a jam in the bar later (those uprights are very cool !!).
Anyway, I digress...
No news on the bass at the mo. I'm expecting to have to make a trip down south at some point in the next few weeks as the neck is due to carved this month.
