JUST ORDERED A SEI 7 !!

Matthew - The kudos for the photos has to go to my girlfriend, Jen. As well as being fully supportive of my Sei, she also takes a great picture..

I've also seen birds-eye which has sporadic and/or little figuring and it's doesn't look good. I have no idea where Martin gets his wood from, but all of it is superb...

Bassplayer2106 - I wonder as well how they cope in that small workshop !! The birds-eye maple 'board was the first thing that was written on my spec' sheet. I've always wanted a birds-eye board. No doubt your 'board will be equally as fantastic.

Dave's right. My bass is just going to have 1 Kent Armstrong humbucker and a volume control, although the routing has been done in case I want a change later on. It'll also have the little coil-tap button which first featured on Matthew's fretted 7. It was a great idea of how to a get another sound but still keeping the face of the bass clutter-free !!

Apologies... In the excitement of posting the new pics I missed your question !!

String spacing is the same as my Conklin. The only measurement Martin needed was the distance from the middle of the low string to the middle of the high. That was 96mm, so that makes the spacing roughly 16mm (I think !!).

Yeah, the neck profile is spot on. Not too thick, in fact, postively anorexic compared to my GT7. This bass is going to be joy to play.

I couldn't be more excited about the prospect of this bass. I know that the Kent Armstrong humbucker is going to be aggressive and growly and that's what I'm after.

The good thing is that because the routing is already done, if I did fancy a preamp or some more controls "it's just a matter of drilling holes " as Martin puts it, so I've future-proofed this bass if my tastes change.

Geez, after finishing and the gold hardware it's gonna be just fantastic AND IT HAS LIGHTS AS WELL :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I trust that was a joke. :eyebrow: Tact, diplomacy and consideration not a strong point?

It's none of our business at all but have you read all the thread and realised why? 7 obviously feels sufficiently strongly to incorporate that colour - with it's meaning - into his bass and who are we to comment or argue.

Personally I think it's cool that 7 has been able to mix into his bass something of strong personal significance. Not that my opinion counts for anything on this subject.

Shall we ask 7's girlfriend what she thinks...

Well I've just asked her !!

Jen thinks it's special that she's included in, what is, a very personal project. Music is my passion (I have an iTunes library of approx 7,500 songs) and I have been playing some kind of musical instrument since I was 4.

I've been suffering from M.E./CFS since Feb '05. For the first few months I couldn't play as I had no power in my grip. The more tests I had, the greater the possibility that I had something very serious.

All through this time, Jen stood by me and came to every test, even when she had the opportunity to walk away. Thankfully, all the tests came up negative and I received a diagnosis, by ommision, of M.E./CFS. Basically, I'm now a larger guy who walks with a stick !!

When the chance to place my Sei order arose Jen was nothing but supportive. We all know that these basses aren't cheap and require a significant financial commitment. I thought the least that I could do would be to include her favourite colour in the bass.

...and it does make a cool veneer between the lacewood and walnut.

Aye, I quite agree :bassist:

I remember posting this thread and originally I was going to have translucent purple with this veneer. When I went and saw the wood, it was pretty obvious that a natural finish was the way to go, but the pink veneer stayed.

A few people commented on the pink, but I stuck with it, Martin thought it would be cool and it's turned out splendid. Jen's very pleased with her contribution :smug:

I did have the option of having some pics sent after the bass comes back from the finishers... I was persuaded otherwise so seeing the completed bass will be a complete surprise !!

There shouldn't be that much time between the bass being returned after finishing and the completed bass as the hardware and electronics are quite straightforward...

Can't wait though !!
