Yup, I'm back again from my trip to London. Apologies for not posting sooner, but the 6 hour drive took a lot out of me and I spent most of yesterday in bed !!
Anyway, I went down to The Gallery to see my bass. It looks awesome, I couldn't be more thrilled by the way it was looking. In fact, John was working on it when I got there !! The bass is going to be sent to the finishers in the next week.
Martin expects that it will return and be completed by the end of January. I've said that it doesn't matter about the timescale as I was expecting to pick it up late Feb/early March.
Most of the hold-up has been down to the veneer material, of course. Martin showed me some that he wasn't happy with and, sure enough, it was more beige than pink !!
The next time I see the bass it'll be completed, so they'll be no more pics until then. Martin did offer to send a pic after the bass comes back from the finishers, but I've decided that it'll only be a couple of months anyway, so it'll be a complete surprise when I get down there.
The bass is extremely light compared to my Conklin GT7. OK, there's no hardware yet, but there's no way it's going to be anywhere near as heavy. It's also not as thick as I thought it would be.
Martin also measured the bass to give me an idea of the pickup position. We've moved it back very slighty, 15mm, the initial position looked a little too far forward.
So here are the latest batch of pics, one with Martin in the background making a cuppa !! On the last one, you can clearly see the pink veneer which looks excellent...
