Wondering what you are all using as a stand. My herc mini bass stand is too big, herculese make a uke stand and there is the woodie which looks interesting too but I'm not sure if the u-bass is too big or if there is enough ground room under it for the lead to remain plugged in.

On tour, I've been using my Ultracase folding sled stand. Works great! For smaller shows & local sets, a Hercules double hanger-stand with the pivoting cams (holds instruments by the headstock off the ground) holds it very well.

@Yeelaberbin.

I've had a look at your Youtubes.

There are some questions if I may?
It concerns the thumbrests on both your guitar and Kala uke.
Could you please show a close-up (detail) photo of how you made it and how you fixed it to the instruments (sanding - gluing?).
What also interests me is the way you have converted an accoustic guitar (by changing the bridge?? and a few other details) and fitted TG strings to the instrument.
For this to work did you have to adapt anything on the headstock?? Change machine heads etc?

I use the herc uke stand and have it straped to the top of my GK 210 combo. The lead can stay plugged in (just barely with a straight lead, no problem at all with a 90 degree lead). The stand hods the Kala very firm and safe and does have some foam pads to protect the front of the uke.
All my other basses are on hanging herc stands, fantastic product.
I can post a pic of the herc uke stand with Kala if you want to see the lead clearance and fit of the instrument.

Boo to the pyramids. I don't like em. I played it in the studio with my "band" and it just sounded thin. I know jack shyte about equalization and all that but my friend who does set it up every way he could and at best it just sounded like an underwhelming acoustic bass. I switched back to my TG's which have settled in nicely after about an hour. What's the consensus on eliminating stickiness? Powder right? Any one in particular? What do you do, get some on your fingers and just rub it on?

There's many photos of my prototypes on my blog:

Concerning the thumbrest, it's screwed.

Your blog answers my questions about the possibility of converting an acoustic guitar to a bass uke. A shame I only read english. Have you ever bought a set of 5 string u-bass strings? Nw searching my local e-bayfor a cheap guitar in my area.

Someone here previously mentioned using powder from a billiards store. I just use baby powder. :)

I picked up my U-Bass a couple weeks ago and have been having so much fun playing it. So. . . My question for all of you. . . how many of you use it without amplification? I just got back from a week at the beach and spent every morning playing with my sister, the banjo player in the link below. I started playing through an inexpensive practice amp and then found that it didn't really need it. Is she gave up the finger picks--I was able to keep up with a banjo. Sure...it wouldn't have kept up with 3-4+ musicians. . . But one-on-one it holds up pretty well.

Slaerts:

I've never tested five string set because i think the low B
string would need a bigger body to produce a good sound.

concerning the unplugged Ubass discuss:

sometime i play my spruce top alone in my car...

There is truely only one way to find out. I've just bought an acoustic guitar off a friend for $50, (havent' told my wife yet), so it begins! 25' scale 5 string!

so, I have a earlier mahogany/spruce acoustic fretless

haven't played it much - but, last night when trying to tune it up to pitch the D string tuner just popped

the gear broke off the stem and doesn't appear repairable

I thought I heard of D strings breaking back when these were first popular but....

has anyone else had a tuner break? Are these cheap tuners? Is there an upgraded tuner recommended?

thanks all
