KISS going micro???

The acopolyse happened in the 70's when people took Kiss seriously. Growing up in Detroit they were mocked in favor of Queen as we gladly accepted nail polish on a lead singer of a band that rocked over posers with pyro. Hence the Detroit Rock City in a vain attempt to move from AM where "Beth" was a big hit, to the FM side LOL.

Hey I have read these forms and as anyone who has, we all know they have a runaway potential. Usually by the same folk who love the sound of their own words. I don't hate Kiss, just wanted everyone to know that they got ZERO airplay in Detroit during the 70's.

Whoa, no kidding? Big surprise...they never got airplay anywhere. Who cares? They still sold out arenas and sold albums.

8th grade. All my bedroom walls covered in KISS posters. Gene was just larger than life to me. Even went as far as trying to blow fireballs by filling our mouths with butane from BIC lighters... luckily we survived that little bit of stupidity. Say what you will about KISS, but they were the ultimate rock stars of their day and the reason I started playing bass in the first place (saw the cover of "Love Gun" and said "Yep, that's for me!")

Gene was really the first person in life I ever idolized. From the day I brought Destroyer home, all I ever wanted to do was be a rock star. Saw the Love Gun tour and it just blew me away. Nothing I have ever seen since compares to the spectacle of that show. And keep in mind, these guys earned their rewards through a lot of hard work and brilliant marketing on Gene's part. He was always the business man behind the machine and we could all learn a lot from his example.

Then, for a joke, my brother bought me Emerson, Lake and Palmer's "Brain Salad Surgery" for my 14th birthday and my life was never the same.

Incredible. When I was 13, my favorite bands were KISS and ELP, too! Loved a lot of stuff back then, but for me they were the pinnacle. And Greg played guitar and bass and I thought that was the coolest.

Lol, riiiiight, Kiss was an underground band. As if Dr. Love didn't get played every hour on every FM rock station in my town.;)

Uriah Heep brings back a lot of memories! I was in Louisville KY when Mick fell off the stage and busted his arm.

Dave wasn't as much into drugs as folks might have thought, though. He pretty much drank himself to death.

And to think that they got their start on the road with Three Dog Night and Steppenwolf......The first time I saw them, I was floored.

That show would have killed! Steppenwolf and Heep on the same bill...that would have ruled. I liked Three Dog Night, too, but Steppenwolf and Heep were big for me.

I was always under the impression that on a public forum it was about free discussion. :confused:

Did you check the link I posted? Interesting don't you think? Gene played a whole heap more guitar then I had thought.

Kiss? Really? I mean musically, ***? Especially during that era when every week some band came out with chops (Bad Co, BTO, Bowie).

As for them being underground LOL. The Dolls were underground! I always considered Kiss a bunch of privileged kids whose lawyer uncle told them controversy will overshadow musicianship. They then set out to implement a strategy from the outfits, to the pyro to the logo to the stage antics to the four separate album covers etc. The were professional wrestling on stage Actually I guess they did borrow from Cooper in that way but I would Killer or BDB up against any Kiss product.

I had a eight year old brother too and I saw what happened to him, so I do understand the phenomenon. Of course the Pistols turned Kiss into a nostalgia act in 1978.

As for Gene, I don't hate him, but every time I hear him open his mouth he proved to be (imho) - the biggest ahole in rock along with Zappa. Frank however was a musician extraordinaire!

As for me not jumping on the Love Boat. You can't set up a can in the middle of the road and not expect some guy to come along and kick it :)
