The list of people who would find that entertaining is fairly small.
And I'm not on it.
I don't know what that means. That performance was boring as hell, and said almost nothing, musically. Just seemed like a guy showing some neat stuff he could do.

I don't think you are supposed to wear jeans either. Unless they look exactly like pants.

Between sets, when the band is out mingling with the audience, there should be no doubt to any casual observer who is or isn't in the band.

Depends where you play. If you show up to a bar gig wearing a suit then that's a little out of place.

& ditto. I've always been assumed to be a musician, for decades before touching an instrument. Almost every time I enter a bar that has live music that night, they ask me if I'm playing
What's kind of unreal is that I rarely spend money on clothes that don't come from the ladies section of a thrift store. I realize not everybody can pull that stuff off, but the gals section has clothes that are way more colorful and don't look big and boxy on me. I get a lot of compliments from girls, in particular

Well, for one, he's not on stage. His clothes tell you that he can get more views just sitting on his couch at home than trying to get people to buy tickets to a concert. Which means he's boring to watch. And that means that while his playing is fantastic, it's a niche market: bass players who like instrumental jazz.
Now, if he were wearing an Iron Maiden tshirt with rips in it .....

However, if you look like you just stepped out of the checkout line at Home Depot or you look like you are crawling your way to the Monday morning AA meeting after a serious weekend back-slide that might not work either.
Mike's not on stage in that video. But he's still nicely dressed IMO. The three times I've seen him playing out he was also nicely dressed,
