Naw, I'm just messing with you...

I have the same bass, upgraded...

Thats a great piece of ash!

Supertanker...looking at your knobs...(go ahead, it's a lob):
vol off
treb and mids center, pup blend centered...

bass all the way up?

man, that'd blow cones out; with the volume back on.

Yeah, it gets nasty around here sometimes...:D

I had just taken it out the gig bag.

And you know how things get screwed up in the gig bag.

I generally run everything flat.

Bass preamp and rack preamp.

And it's still enough to crack walls...

oh totally, i would not be doing upgrades on it until after a couple months of owning it anyway. I have tested the MK1 system in an ibanez SR500, so I do have a decent idea of how they perform. Not horrible electronics, but there are better options obviously.

at the moment I really just can't wait to get my hands on a 55-01.. but I am still very interested in hearing more about all these modding experiments.

thanks!

Yesterday, Rocking out at Findlay Market (Cincinnati).

It was a great day, great gig, great audience.

I ran my Zoom B2, DB659, Carvin 1503 and Carvin HD900 (600 watts @ 8 ohms).

The 5501 sounded AWESOME and took NO prisoners!!

The female vocalist specifically asked for the 5501 on her neo-soul tunes...

Great thread. It hasn't gotten much use since I joined my country band, but when I need a 5 string fretted bass my stock 55-01 never lets me down. I love the fact that it's Cherry burst, but not fancy topped so it stands out, but not too much. I love simple bold woodgrain.

No recent or individual pics, but here it is in an outdated "family" shot.

photography never does justice to the finish. My wife baught it for me a couple years back for our first anniversary. Yaay!

I think you have all the basses covered :rollno:

I bet that hollow body and fretless sound good...

It looks like a 4 mm wrench, but I am just eyeballing it compared to the only other allen wrenches I have which are on one of those grips (fold up like a swiss army knife) that I can't actually test on the truss rod. Lakland customer service should be able to tell you definitively.

*Dummy me, I should have just looked at the website. they have it listed as a 5/32. It worked but seems a little looser than I would like.

Thanks,
I do like them. The "Crown Professional" (60's MIJ) hollowbody is a frustration of mine, It's neck is playable, but unadjustable, and it is too fragile to take out much, but the semihollow artcore I purchased to give it a respite has a great tone, but doesn't capture the same gorgeaous upright-meets-mccartney sound of the Crown.
The Carvin frettless is quite a beast, but after switching to flats, it sounds positively dead, so it'll be back to rounds quickly. It was kind of my benchmark quality comparison for the 55-01, and while my 55-01 doesn't quite meet the carvin precision build quality, it is close enough to impress the heck out of me.
