Hey guys =) I just want to ask for some insights again. So i've decided that i would get the Big Split ( for that oompy jazz bass tone ).. The next question is.. what pre amp should i go for. My first choice would be to get the nordy preamp. But i really want to get that marcus millery slap tone yet flexible enough so i could dial in a more RNB'ish tone or a more jazz bass single coil tone. To sum it all up... I really want an ALL ROUNDER that is AMAZING IN EVERYTHING =) hope to hear from you guys =)

My 55-01 with big splits and a sadowsky pre with vtc is one the way here. I will let you know how I dig it and try to get some sound clips. Here is the original owners post http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=403402
Installed my new Big Singles and they have given my 01 the sound I really wanted. Currently I have them wired straight to the jack. I've been having a hard time finding 250K mini pots that will fit, preferably solid shaft.
I'll post pics when I have it all finished.
BTW is #0201 taken?
THANKS MR NICE GUY =) keep us posted. I hope there was someone with any experience with the nordstrand pre... There's no doubt that the Big Splits is a monster.... but it still needs a MONSTER OF A LEASH to tame i t;-)
I would really like to do a Big Split + Nordstrand Pre upgrade for my 55-01 but so far I find myself having a difficult time believing that the Bart MK-1 setup sounds bad enough to do it. Rough dillema, huh? 
Wow, thanks sean. I did this last night and had a band rehearsal tonight... The bass tone was so much more defined it was unbelievable. Much more punchy and audible, it also recorded extremely well. I could actually hear the tone of the bass. By the way, this on a SR750. I've seen other postings regarding going passive with the MK1's, but I only stumbled upon your post by accident. Perhaps we could sticky this someplace. Thanks again!

Personally, I keep teeter tottering back and forth. Can't decide if I like it better passive or active. But it is cool that you can try it without affecting the bass at all.
If I do decide to take the plunge and go passive full time, I may try to whip up a passive blend. I do have a 250K pot just sitting around....
The bass came friday didnt get off work till one am. all I can say is its a beauty. I will gush more in the morning

Big Singles with passive V-V-T tone controls. This thing sounds awesome!!! Thanks to my friend Dan for the use of his Bridgeport and for doing a masterful job on the soldering.

Big Singles with passive V-V-T tone controls. This thing sounds awesome!!! Thanks to my friend Dan for the use of his Bridgeport and for doing a masterful job on the soldering.

Why not stick some dummy pots or switches in the empty holes? That is why I usually do. I couple of small switches would be unobtrusive and you can make up cool names for them.
That, oh, that is the robustness switch. The other is the pork fat sizzle switch!
Great news! My 44-01 made it back from Lakland last week. I'm really happy with the upgrades. I went with US Barts and an LH3. They also added a passive tone knob for me. The passive Barts sound better than I expected. It will take me awhile to work out all the tone options...

I thought about that; a couple of "producer" switches. I thought about LED's, fake eyeballs, gummy worms, and even a "bass cam". But, I think I'm going try plugging the holes just shallow, then take a picture of the bass and cut out little circles from the photo that best match the color, glue those to the plugs, and hand brushing some clear over that. I saw someone do it with a fender logo on the headstock of his guitar and it looked pretty convincing from a few feet away.
Yeah, I really like the new pickguards you guys are sporting. Like how it is more down on the lower horn.
still havent had a chance to fully put it thru the paces at volume. but im loving what I hear so far.

That was my 1st plan. But I kept missing the 55-01 that would come up for sale. And this deal came along and it worked out great. Maybe some day I will try that pick up combo
Shoot man, you got the pickup/pre combo that should kill!! I was just thinking out loud what I may want after the C'Hill eagle lands.
I've heard great things about the Nordy/Sadowsky pre combo.
