I run passive on some of the 70's tunes we cover.

With the LH3 in passive mode the blend knob still works so you can blend or isolate the pickups.

The neck pickup gives kinda of a P bass sound only fuller minus the hollow grind.

The bridge gives a nice fat bark.

They sound great...

I just ordered my first Lakland from The Perfect Bass...
55-01, 3TSB/Maple, claimed 8.6 lbs.:hyper: Bought to be modded with Nordy Big Splits and a new pre (still undecided on which).

I'm interested in some hearing some input/opinons on Nordy 3B, Bart NTMB, and Aguilar OBP-3 preamps. I'm also considering skipping the pre altogether and wiring the thing up totally passive.

EDIT: In digging through this thread more, I found what I was looking for regarding pres. I think the Nordy is the call for me.

Congratulations!

I've bought several basses from those guys.

Good choice on the Nord Pre.

I asked Cary about it and he tried to play it down (I don't think he wanted to toot his own horn).

You bass will sound and play like you spent $2500 for it.

You'll be very happy with your choice.

I've had the Nord pre in two basses now and like it a lot.
It's a great pairing with Nord pickups-duh!-and sounds very natural..."as oppposed to all-preamp-y."

It's good that we have a lot of choices, and different folks like different things.
I have an audere 3zb in my Valenti Geddy Vee with Big Singles, and I didn't like it.
Can't really quantify why, other than to say it seemed to be a tone sucker, and the bass suited me better passive than with the audere.
lotsa guys like them though.

I ended up putting a Nord preamp in that bass as well.

Yeah, I know it looks the same as a lot of the 55-01s around here. I thought long and hard about going black/maple, but I just couldn't do it. Now that it's in my hands, I'm glad I went with the 3TSB. It's a beautiful instrument. :)

Unfortunately, I probably won't get a chance to plug the thing into my DB750 until Sunday. :(
