The 4 series neck is just me. It fit my hand better than a glove. The 55 series neck feels very different, not like it's a variant of the same thing. It's wider, heavier, longer, has compound radius (which the 4 series doesn't), and if you A/B the dimensions you'll see the specs are different. I couldn't play finger per fret in the 1st position (which I am used to) and stil don't feel comfortable about that so I do more substitutions etc.
Please understand me right: the neck is awesome; but it's not a 4-stringer nor a 5-er of the Ibanez SR kind

Ha, picked up a Ibby Soundgear 4 banger the other day, trying it out for a newbie buddy of mine who's in love w/ it's looks. After the initial shock at the fact that I immediately sounded like Fieldy (YUCK!!), I noticed the toothpick-like neck. Holy cow, this thing's neck felt like it was maybe an inch wide at the nut, weighed about NOTHING (honestly about 6lbs), and sounded like broken glass in a coffee can being beaten on w/ a drumstick.

Now, I once owned a SR 6er that was decent, but this 4 banger had too little mass to produce bass frequencies IMO.

There's something to be said about thick-necked heavy (over 9lbs at least :D) basses.

I still remember that night in Nashville...

buying my first Lakie from an ebay seller, I'd never played or even seen one in person, didn't feel risky to me. Must've been destiny. We met in a dark parking lot, opened the case, and my hands met HEAVEN. It was hard to even care enough to go to the RHCP concert, later that night. I couldn't get that birdseye, those TINY perfectly dressed frets outta my mind. I was scared to leave her in the hotel room. Would she be OK, would she miss me?

Sounds kinda like a steamy romance novel, huh? That's cause it is HAHAHA.

Well, played the BIG show tonight. As Y'all know, when the band won the Battle recently, we won a spot to open for a big act. It went great!!! There was 4 bands, and we were first. As is customary, the sound guy had us sounding pretty crappy, so each subsequent band could sound better and better :rollno:.... Didn't matter, WE KILLED!!! My Sexual Chocolate got a LOT of attention, even the other bands wanted to ask about her! Had to educate a lotta folks about Lakies, it's always a pleasure :).

I noticed people taking pics of my bass while I was playing, felt great! :D We sold almost all our merch, probably close to 50 shirts and 50 CDs, had autograph requests (new to me :)), even signed 2 sets of boobies. I was the last member to sign one set, and she had to REALLY pop one out for me to have room. Signed me some areola hahaha. Funniest thing is, my GF insisted that I have my "rockstar moment" and sign dem boobies. She's the BEST!!!

Congrats, glad to hear the show went so well! (And that the Lakie got a lot of love.) And dude, you ARE a rock star now. And that lady is a keeper!

GOOD STUFF! Our show tonight was of the outdoor type, and as luck would have it, it started raining 15 minutes before we started. Luckily, as soon as we started, it stopped, and by the second set, we were playing to about 300, so it was a good night (with some GREAT scenery, although no boobie autographs....).

Last night was out first night in the studio. We do southern rock/country kinda stuff. Through a typical set, I amy change basses 2 or 3 times, depending on what we are doing. I took the triplets last night, and figured I would use them all throughout the session. NOPE! I plugged in the Glaub direct.....and I saw a big smile on the engineers face. He said it was the best sounding fender he had ever heard. I chuckled a bit and got to educate him on Laklands. I completely understand why a precision is so widely used. Without trying to sound like a cliche', it sat PERFECTLY in the mix. I tracked 3 songs last night, and on 2 of them I had my tone knob at about 75%, and on the last song, it was completely rolled off. Absolutely perfect. I had been contemplating putting flats on my Glaub, but after last night, I will stay right where I am at.

I had a 5er as my first bass...I thought is was cool!...what the hell did I know;)

My first Lakland was a Black DJ, I traded from Tom Bowlus. When the offer came, I never even heard of Lakland:-) So glad I did it!
