Well as you can see, im in that thread as well but i do want to stress that im happy with the bass and while im not 100%with the pick tone i had already aired my worries about going back to a Jazz after really getting in to my P sound before i got my DJ5 so for me its just a transitional thing, i hope.
I play 99% with a pick and while im not really digging the tone (yet) im going to change strings and see how things develop.

For me its just a lack of punch and thickness that im missing.
Im hoping a set of elixirs will do the trick as i dont really like SS strings as i find them too bright and playing with a pick seems to exaggerate this.

Thanks. There wasnt a tag on it but i think the shop had removed it as it was also tested out and put in a gig bag in the shop.

It feels like the perfect neck. My worries about it not being identical to the JO5 i played recently we very unfounded. In fact from what i can remember of it my DJ5 feels a bit more comfortable.
Then again im coming from almost a year with a Fender P5 and thats quite a different neck.

That was a custom made pickguard ordered by the previous owner. To tell you the truth, I didn't dig it at first. But when I thought about it I realize that I look at basses for sale all the time and they have a pound of wood chipped off under the neck pickup. Not a lot of resale value. From the audience, you can't really tell the pick guard's even there (apart from possible glare) and with a body like that, you've got to show it off! Makes sense to me, form + function. That pick guard also has a little gap for the truss rod adjustment, quite convenient! So, find someone who makes custom pick guards and there you go.:D

TOTALLY forgot how to play a J after playing the P exclusively for the past month. Anyway, pulled her out for set 2, and got a LOT of comments on the finish, and she sounded great. Third set is a rocker, so went back to the BG, but overall, I'm REALLY happy with both....

Just kidding!

when I was a young lad, you could drink at 18...which means we drank at 17.....also, beer was allowed on college campuses in those days so there was a keg or two in the outdoor commons every friday...ahhh.....those were the days!
