I have a string question but i think it will be better asked here.
I love the flexibility of the Lakland SS strings that came with my DJ5 but i would prefer nicks.
Ive used the Lakland nicks in th epast and they are fine but im in a hurry (im in the UK) so can anyone suggest some nicks that have a similar tension to the Laklands?
Are DR lo-riders a good choice? Arent laklands made by DR?
I put a set of my fav strings, Elixirs on last Friday but as i posted before, the tension made the bass a bit harder to play.
At the moment the Laklands have gone back on but i would like to get some nicks on before this Friday's gig.

Dave, it's actually GHS that makes Lakland strings. It's been a while since I've played Lakland nickels, so I'm trying to recall the tension. I will say that my favorite nickel strings are DR Sunbeams--I have them on my Fender P, as well as my DS'd Glaub and JO. I'd describe the tension as medium, and I really like the tone: Balanced and not too bright, but with enough high-end articulation.

I think Slinkys are somewhat similar.

I think i might try some sunbeams as i keep hearing good things about them.
I have a new set of Fender 8250's at home i might try first though. After spending just over £40 on the Elixirs i cant afford to make another mistake.

US cirrus basses are awesome, as are Laklands. They're 2 VERY different build styles. You should decide what you prefer: neck-thru vs bolt-on, narrow vs 19mm string spacing, etc.

Ive got a Fender P5 which has the same neck as the Jazz V (assuming you mean the 2008/09 version) and i had a 55-01 at the time i got the P5.
I found that the 55-01 neck was a lot easier to play. Ive now gone back to Lakland as i felt i couldn't get a good enough action with the P5 and the neck was a bit cramped.
Saying that the back of the neck is very nice and much classier than the Lakland Skyline necks (IMHO). I find the back of my 55-01 and my DJ5 is very easy to dig. I also love gloss necks.

I do agree with the others about the tone. I was never happy with my 55-01, even after changing the preamp to a NTMB. Guess its the pups that most people dont like.

Dave,

I swear by [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. There are the only nickels that go on my Lakies. Unfortunately they aren't the easiest string to find sometimes. I use the Custom medium set that has a .135 B string.

They seem a bit pricey but ill add them to the list of strings to try.

Its funny but i loved Elixirs on both my HW1 Jazz, duck Dunn and Fender P5 but found they changed the feel DJ5 too much.
Tone wise they are great but one of my first impressions of the DJ5 was how easy it is to play, this seemed to go once i changed strings. I put the Laklands back on last night and all was back to how it should be.
