Also, he is talking 2 J-style basses.....don't want them to be "too" alike....

in Doug's defense, he does have an awesome bass with a maple board that he was trying to switch to rosewood... wait a minute
OK Ferg... you keep showing me up, and Stuart is getting a bit jealous wanting some face time, so here goes....

I heard. Thanks! That's really nice of you to just GIVE me your new BG5. I can't wait to put some 'White Stripes' or 'The Doors' stickers on it!
Seriously, though. I'm stoked to have won some Bass Emporium swag! Becoming a supporting member at laklandowners.com is probably the best $26 I've ever spent!
You decide...but all the cool kids play Maple!

I remember (before getting my 1st Lakland) NOT digging the 55 body shape's looks. But, the features and reputation drew me in. I agreed to buy my 55-94 without having ever seen or played a Lakland. It took about 2 seconds in my hands, to totally fall in love w/ the bass. Now, I can't remember why I didn't dig the body shape.

I felt the same about the DJ5's shape. Bought one off the 'bay and fell in love, wish I coulda kept it and wired it in series.

The JO5.... I've always loved it's looks! Miss that bass too!

They should really think about the battery compartment. The best placement would probably be in proximity of the preamp compartment, but there should be an easier clip.
The other day I was hurrying to a rehearsal and just before I left, when everything was set ready and I had only 15 minutes left, I realized the bass I was taking had a weak battery (I had been playing the other one). Man! Taking the battery out of the clip is a trick BUT unscrewing and getting the cover out of the routing on the other bass is something... and then screwing it back on...
what are the other elements tho? I think maple is sexy on natural/black pg but rosewwod is classy on burst/tort pg or black/whatever pickguard and so on...
how's that Doug? "REALLY nice Gus but +10000 to rosewood"?![]()
How about maple from the 1st-->11th fret and rosewood the rest of the way. You'd be a trend setter![]()
I vote MAPLE.

I'd consider a maple board if the body was the right color, for sure!

If you can't decide, get rosewood with maple blocks. Sometimes, you gotta go with US.![]()
PM "nubs" for a number, and check out Link Removed for more good stuff.
I definitely know what you're saying with the 55's. Lately I've definitely been leaning towards more traditional looks. They will custom build one for you, this is a mockup that I took to Dan and may still eventually order....

Hey Guys, I posted my new to me 55-94 a few pages back - can I get a number?!!!
Also, I was thinking about it last night... I love the 55-XX feel and tone, but I must admit that for looks alonge I am not absolutely in love with the body shape (as comfortable as it is)... I thought it would be awesome to have a DJ5 shaped bass but with the electronics/control layout of a 55-XX - meaning no pickguard or control plate, etc. Anyone with me? Too bad the odds of that happening is next to nothing.
OK Ferg... you keep showing me up, and Stuart is getting a bit jealous wanting some face time, so here goes....

Cute kid!
You know, you could combine your current bass with your dream bass. The BG prototype would look awesome with a maple/ebony block fingerboard. A little Halloween-ish.
Great pictures, Randy! (Yours are outstanding, too, Ferg--no fighting). By the way, Stuart has far less drool than Doug would in the presence of that bass!
