LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #29

Can someone help me diagnose this problem? or is this Normal?

Both tone controlls on my HB seem to have zero affect. I can't hear any difference when they are all the up or down, or using one or the other. It's as if they are not even connected to the PUs. I would think I would hear at least some difference in the tone.

Anyone else notice this? or is the difference just really sublte? Or maybe I'm crazy and/or deaf.

any thoughts?

Yeah, that seems unusual. Are you the first owner? If not, it sounds like someone went diggin' where they shouldn't have:hmm: I've got a Ric that's wired up all crazy-like! The nerve of some people:scowl:

Not the 1st owner. Got it off ebay about 2 years ago. So who knows what has happened. Other than this issue the bass is sweeet! Good thing i just love the tone how it is! it's my #2 favorite right behind my 55-94 3 tone SB.

Anybody know of a good place for service on the HB in Minneapolis or burbs? don't have the time to get to Chi-town to have Dan and Co look at it.

BTW-
Your "markus orange" JO is abso-friggin-loutley sick!!! I have saved a picture of it from the LOG you posted just so i can drool over it when ever I want. What a beuatiful bass!! I'd love to hear it. It's a top 5 best looking bass I have ever seen!

Ohhhhh, yeah! I get to post near the start of one of these threads! I feel so priviledged!

On a less excitable note: I really, really wish Lakland would build a sixer. I want a six again so bad, but after playing Laklands for the last few years I just can't see playing any other make. Maybe they could make a "65-94, or a 65-09". All I want in this world is a six string version of my 55-94's.

I guess it's just wishful thinking at this point.......

there are others who agree with you.....some people more than others......never say never.....:ninja:

Ok, so the promised can of worms ;-)

I've never played or really heard a CS bass (save for the samples on the Lakland site). So today I listened to the samples again, particularly to the JOCS and JO, flats and rounds.
To say the truth, as heard online, I think I like the "regular" singles more than the CS:hiding: It may be the computer speakers or something... To me, the CS samples sound more "shallow" and "flat", maybe "neat" whereas the singles have those accented jazzy "bumps"...

Please tell me if I'm wrong.

you need to hear them in person....order a set and then make a comment.....I would not call a CS "shalow", "neat" or "flat " by any means....

I tried, but I still want a Hollowbody

Hmmm :hmm:, and the bid on the damaged Decade on the 'bay has went up above what I'd wanna spend on it too. So, we won't be swapping necks, sorry.

Why didn't you just put a P pup in your JO5?

The more I look at Doude's PJed 5er, the more I think that "aesthetically" the pups look crowded (reminiscent of the old Stu Hamm Urge bass, remember that one??). I like the look of the JO/DJ bodies w/ PJ configs much better.

Don't get me wrong Doude's BG5 is awesome. I'd just prefer it w/ just the P pup, looks-wise. But ironically, history tells me that I just don't dig straight up P basses :hmm:. I needs me a J or preferably a MM pup near the bridge :hyper:.

I would still buy ANY BG5 if I had the funds though and one was available. Curiosity is a killer!!

no issues JJ....some people like J bodies and some like Ps.....I can deal with either......I do think a J bass set up in a PJ config looks cool......may have to get one SOMEDAY!
