Tonally, I'm going to have to get used to it. I've gotten to used to my DJ's neck pup, and the Dunn is definitely different. Much more throaty in the middle of the neck, chunkier in the lows, and the high end is less hollow sounding. Cool, but honestly I wasn't instantly jumping for joy. I've worked the EQ some and it definitely made me smile a little. I need to gig it a bit before I come to any conclusions.

thanks for the input. The change was to be expected, wasn't it. With your EQ, are you trying to get something in between?

Yeah, I would have been disappointed if it wasn't different. I just didn't know if I'd love it as soon as I heard it, and I didn't. No biggie. I like it, and that's enough for now. I've bought a few basses that made me want to cry when I first played them because I knew they would never work for me. This definitely isn't like that!

As for EQ, I wasn't really trying to make it sound like anything necessarily. I was just using what my amp was already setup for...a DJ. I went to flat after a while, and then started changing things up from there. The rh450 is great for that thanks to the 4 semi-parametric bands. What I finally ended up with was a bit of cut on the lows (70 hz), a bit of boost in the low-mids (around 200 hz), cut in high-mids (800 hz), and cut the highs around 2k. This sounds pretty darn good to my ears. Chunky but not boomy, with a good bark in the middle of the neck, and a full round sound above the 12th fret. If you've heard Death Cab's "I Will Possess Your Heart", then that's the sound. It's thinner than what most traditional guys like in a P bass, but I'm digging it. Of course, I can quickly dial up lows if I want them.

I got my prize DR Long Necks last night! Just put 'em on to stretch but not played yet.

Every Lakland related package, no matter the size, makes me happy :hyper:

What a great guy! Is that the Ivan the Terryble that Julie was visioning?
I am a bit disordered with my last acquisition - can't afford to be the first in line when you throw him back on the market... I mean, I can't make as much as a Lakie may cost every few hours... ;-)


is it the one that was sold for $1200?

Yes it is, I got it for $1150 and was totally shocked when it arrived in a double gig bag... very nice.
She will stretch her legs tonight in rehearsal at full volume... I cant wait!!!!
... and it's the model with the built in thumb rest!!!

Once you FEEL (not just hear) that low D, you'll find yourself using it more and more, and pretty soon you'll be hooked. You may even evolve :ninja: into using the open B :bassist::D.



I'm just messin'. Have fun with her! And, I can't believe she came w/ a double gigbag :rollno:!! You could probly sell that and have less than 1k in the bass..... unbelievable!!
