LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #30

Um, so I just got a little freaked out by a gig I have on Friday.

Now, I'm not normally superstitious, but the show is on Friday the 13th. And if that wasn't enough, it's at a summer camp...

Does this situation sound familiar to anyone else???

NICE!!!

It still is 5J #01...it's just not 3TB anymore..

I figured if I threw out to the Forums that I was having it re-finished I would be told it was Blasphemy and I didn't want to hear it. I’ve wanted to do this for a while.

It's never going to be for sale and it's already paid for itself 10 times over...so I took the plunge and had it redone…I love how it looks and it still sounds phenomenal.

To me personally…and I know not everyone agrees…the value of any Bass is primarily in the neck. I would NEVER mess with the neck on this one.

All in all I’m happy with my decision…now for a PG choice!!!!
i love it ferg, nice choice!! it's not like it's a 62 f#$%^# :hiding:

is that shoreline gold??

Black pickgaurd for sure!! tort is "cute" too:D

I've spent some more time with the Dunn, this time playing along with classic P bass recordings as well as some newer things. I spent some time trying to get a Pino tone going, and it was quite successful! Still need the flats to really pull it off of course. Played around with some older Might Boss Tones, which was quite fun also. Really digging this bass. It's also pretty light since I searched different dealers asking them to weight them...under 9 lbs. Right down my alley.

I'm really liking this bass more and more. The CAR finish is deep and rich. It's far more attractive in person, and the white pickguard looks great too, so I think I'll not worry about replacing it for now.

I still think I'd like to trade my White DJ5 for a LPB or perhaps a Black sparkle. Are those two finishes as good looking in person as the CAR Dunn is? I love the white pearl, but my DJ has that finish, so I think I'd like something else on the DJ5.

Now that I'm used to it, I know what I'm looking for, and love it solo as well. In the past, I was a strictly active guy, and it almost seemed the opposite- sounded GREAT soloed, but then disappeared into a pile of boom in a mix.
"Pile of boom", nice! :D Although I did play an HH Stingray in Florida that sounded pretty tasty, though. Growly with enough "heft" to the tone to please the P bass lover that I am. Would be interesting to hear in a mix.

Haha no, Camp Wayfarer in Hendersonville NC... But still, a little creepy! They HAD to have scheduled it like this on purpose.
Hooterville, my old stomping grounds! I never made it to the camp, but I heard it was for upper-crust kids--just the kind a monster would want to come after.:D Seriously, if you get to Main Street, stop by Hannah Flanagan's. It's a fairly hoppin' bar on the right night, and it's run by a good friend of mine. If you talk to him (his name is Matt, he's really tall)), tell'im Greg sent you.

Haha nice, I'll see what I can do. This is for a Wofford frat's mountain weekend.

Had to cure my P GAS somehow, and was too late to get Terry's DSed one :crying:. So.... considering my love for Fralin's J pups, I figured I'd like their Ps as well. And, I'm also not too fond of the wide-nutted P necks. So, I went with this one :hyper:.

I'll tune her a step down or BEAD, dunno yet.

This'll be my first "real" P bass in 20 years of playing. And, I've NEVER used one in a band setting, just tinkered at home on a Squier and a crappy Kay copy. I've always said that "I'm not a P bass guy". Well, it's time to see what all the hubbub has been about for the last half decade or so :D.
Great choice, J!:hyper: Sorry you missed out on my old DS'd Glaub, but I'm sure you'll dig this one--Lakland's CAR is beautiful, and the Fralins rock. Also, John/The Crusader is a really good guy, I've spent some time with him at the two International GTGs he's organized. Good taste in instruments, and he seems to take very good care of them. Looking forward to your review.

Very cool, Ferg, I'm digging it! Where did you get it refinished? It's probably the lighting, but it looks "warmer" than mine.

Thanks! I'm stoked.

Played a couple of gigs this weekend with the cover band.... all the girls love Radioactive oatmeal, all the musicians love the sound of the BG5. I KNEW I should've done the Glaub in metal flake ;) j/k

so....lessee - if you were not married with Child, I would say the girl's impression would be most important......but now????? who knows! sound vs. looks???? I take sound every time but looks are a nice adder.....there is a lady at church that says my ice blue JO5CS is a "very petty bass".....

I would agree....but it also sounds phenominal!

maybe radioactive oatmeal needs to become REALLY radioactive (i.e CS'd???):ninja::hiding::D
