Yeah, easy guy to deal with too.
Darn good deal for it as well! At least I thought it was.

I'm kinda shocked about something though. The prices for a new 55-94 are like $3700-ish street. That's Sadowsky price range.
But it seems for what ever reason, Lakland's haven't held the value quite as high as the Sadowsky's have.

Don't get me wrong, that's WAYYYYY good for us. A Lakland was a SUPER close second when I got my first Sadowsky.

I mean, c'mon, used 55-94's floating about 2K???
Insane!!!!

Yup...insane but GOOD for us.....severly undervalued for sure.....but don't tell too many people....that would ruin "our little secret"....right?????

so it's acrylic? never heard of this kind of coating. I bet it's awesome! //in low whisper//: I was actually hoping for a fretless 55-94 when I asked Leo... But it turned out differently but soooooo great!

there are different types of coatings...Lakland prefers acrylic....others prefer epoxy.....I am glad you got what you did.....that is truly a one of a kind - a fretless 55-94 a little (OK alot) less so!

NOT that I would trade mine mind you.....:bassist:

you my friend are right as always!
Speaking of which, the strings are not here yet... I'm starting to get nervous

BTW, what do you guys think of DR Black Beauties? The company that is hauling my new black/chrome is selling DRs in bulks
Or to get Ernie Ball 45-130 again? They gave that "good ole sound that you know from when you were a kid" when on my bass

argh!!! I hope they got the postage right at the Post office...I will check to see if the package got returned in the morning....

as for black beauties...never tried them....DR is A LOG sponsor you know!!! :D

Actually... fergbassplayer was the former (and as far as I know, the only other) owner. ;).

I'm still on the fence on whether or not this is going to go. I found a pretty righteous deal on a US JO... it's had a couple of mods that will require some work done (or a new body) at some point. I'm trying to decide if it's a good enough deal to just go for.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a new body from Lakland? I feel like it'd be a total longshot, and probably out of the question... but worth asking. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm a lot less insane than I appear to be sometimes - just trust me.

ahhh - so that was FERG's.....really nice one!

what is "wrong" with the body? yes - Lakland will sell bodies....may or may not be worth the price of admission though, depending on how much the US JO is now....

you would have to e-mail [email protected] for a quote.....

I would say that, under MOST circumstances, a US JO is always worth it!

as for being less insane than you apear...don't worry about that here.....we are all insane!!!:atoz:

Is that a single pickup decade?:hyper:
Tell me more.

US body, Skyline neck.
I think the story goes, someone bought the bass from Lakland, changed the pickups to DS's, butchered it slightly, and they threw it together as is.
I believe there is the route under the pickguard. So really you could have them route the pg for a second Chi.
When I posted this pic yesterday someone PM'd me to ask how much$$$
I was curious so I called Leo.....its not exactly cheap:eyebrow:

Great choice, J!:hyper: Sorry you missed out on my old DS'd Glaub, but I'm sure you'll dig this one--Lakland's CAR is beautiful, and the Fralins rock. Also, John/The Crusader is a really good guy, I've spent some time with him at the two International GTGs he's organized. Good taste in instruments, and he seems to take very good care of them. Looking forward to your review.

thank you Greg, I look forward to seeing you next August 15:)

I'm gonna get nailed here, but I dislike the Decade, so I can't help you there.

But after owning quite a few Sadowsky's (and starting the Sadowsky Club) they really are what they are made out to be.

Lakland in pretty much every aspect is on par with Sadowsky.
I've only had the 55-94's and one 55-76, so I'm kinda limited to that.

Also, I had Sadowsky's out on tour and know how they work in large theaters and such.
I haven't had a Lakland out like that yet. I have friends who flat out wouldn't play anything else and didn't care for my Sadowsky.

I will say though, this 55-94 I have has the "new" Lakland pick-ups/pre-amp.....WOW!!! It can nail a sweet Jazz Bass tone FAR better than the Bart system could.
Lakland hit it out of the park with this. It really put this thing into the "one bass can pretty much do it all".
I think if more guys outside of the Lakland fan club really took the time to try one with the new system.....you would see a LOT more of them.
It seems that when Lakland first really hit, guys (and girls!) played them (and loved them) but then when you mention Lakland, most have an idea of what to expect sound wise because of the Barts.
I feel the LH3 kicks the Barts ass. IMO naturally :D

Do I feel that Sadowsky is superior to Lakland?? No, but Sadowsky does have this "thing" where no matter the situation, it always seems to find it's spot in the mix and really work.
I think the LH3 system in the 55-94 could be a MAJOR contender for a spot like that.

Heck, the last tour I was on (country) it was Sadowsky, Lakland, Fender or Music Man mostly. And pretty close to that order too.

Fit,finish, playability, quality is equal to anyone out there. Tone?? well, that's subjective as hell.

It's a Jaguar or a Mercedes. Pick one. Both are sweet as hell!

MIke: thanks for sharing your opinion.....you will not get "nailed" for sharing (well educated and experienced) views here......I totally agree that the LH3 is better than (most) Bart systems (to my ears)....others disagree.....

I like you analogy.....both high quality - just in a different way!
