Thanks guys for advices.. I'm still 50/50 on what knobs I should pick.. I can't deny it that both chrome and black will look cool but chrome will pretty much compliment the bridge color and black will compliment the darker tone of body and neck..

OK, you got me on that one... I have no idea what you mean by "sandwich-style" :confused:

I'm not sure what it is for me... like I said, with a nice top, I think wood knobs complement nicely... all the funky grain and stuff makes it look so organic. Just having some plastic/rubberized lookin' knobs on there takes away from that for me... they seem out of place/inorganic... I dunno. I know you could say the stock knobs match the pickups, or that the pickups ruin the "natural" vibe too, but for some reason they don't bother me as much. As you said, to each their own though.

Can anyone tell me if 55-01 and 55-02 necks are interchangeable ?

I'd guess they ought to be, but is there any subtle difference between the two models that would affect the fit ?

(BTW, I can't just try it out, I'm talking about potential purchases.)

All Skyline 5 string necks, with the exception of the DJ5, are the same neck. The holes may not exactly line up, but the sizing is the same.

It's the 4 -string Skylines that don't have carbon reinforcement. The fivers do.
Also, I should've done THIS in the first place:

As far as looks go, the 01-Deluxes look nice, VERY nice! Standards can look sorta plain.

The 02's versatility is it's strongest selling point: jazz, MM, P bass, and all the in between settings.

No, seriously, as much as the -01 is a great bass, the Mk-1 is oh well, not so great. The lows are not that assertive, the highs are not as live and are somewhat harsh and hissy, and then there's the noise. I had a chip swapped on my bass and that I considered it to be worth the deal. But then again, I'd paid $100 to have that done
The US Вartolini MME/J installed on the older versions of the -94/-02 have LOTS of sounds; the best part is, they are usable ones, not like "you have those 3 knobs but oh, they don't really do anything", like on one of those basses with single wide pickups that resemble the -94 /-02 ;). This is a bass you can use in a jazz big band, for rock, for church music, for anything.
The newer Lakland LH-3s are close to that, but with a more agressive/modern bite.
There are guys who are happy with their stock -01s; those that are happy with their -01s with pups and/or preamps swapped for something; I say you should give a try to a -94/-02 and find for yourself
