LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #47

I found something interesting. Perhaps it's been discussed already but I saw this Lakland listed as a 44-60 yet the body looks completely different from the 44-60 on the Lakland web site. This actually looks more reminiscent of the DJ, but is quite different from that too. Anyone know the story of this body shape?

Man, that's hot! Yes, that looks to be the new version of the DJ, now called the 44-75. I didn't realize they had finished any of them yet. Don't see the model listed on Lakland's site yet.

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. ;)
Regarding the high end: I've upgraded many basses with ChiSonics, but with every bass it's a surprise which combination of pot-values and cap is the best match to get the right sound. So I expect a lot of tweaking with the Godin before I'm satisfied.

always welcome!
I did try to fiddle with the pots with some help of an electric/ musical stuff technician guy. Tried several kinds but finished off with the ones that came with the bass
What is "cap" BTW?

GASSS PAIN!! This always happens to me. Get a lakland - sell it - regret it - buy another when cash permits ;)

Now i think im in need of a purple 55-94 to acompany my nordy :)

Cap = capacitor. I use Orange Drops.

Regarding the pots: in my Jazz with ChiSonics (single coils) I ended up with 500 K for volume and 300 K for tone, but in a Lakland DJ with J-Sonics the best sounding was 250 K for V & T. :hmm:

I just checked in my bass. All the 3 pots (VVT) are 250K by CTS, the capacitor - I don't know what it is but it is a swampy greenish brown thing and is marked '2A223IT'. I may be mistaken though since not all of the simbols are fully readable.
Now that you've said it, we tried different capacitors as well but also ended with the original one.

J-Sonics - my guess would be you're meaning Chi Sonic singles?

If they didn't need to follow Darryl Jones's strict specs, I wish they'd gone with something more radical. Right now, it just looks like a Jaguar, functionally no different than a JO with an extra fret.

I'd love it if it had 70's pickup spacing, an third pickup (a humbucker between the single coils like an Atelier Z?), or maybe a more radical change in aesthetics. As a replacement for the DJ, it swallows its pride as "the next best thing."

I'd love to play one! It's the chrome pickups, and the open distance between the two sonic islands:-)

what do you mean? not a fan of the chrome pickup covers?

I think an inca slver Scheff with the chrome covers, and chrome knobs is just so "anti-stealth"....love it!

after "desperatly seeking Scheff" i picked up a 5 er just this week

"desperatly seeking Scheff" - LOL! good one Randy...where are the pics man???

oh man oh man oh man...

Yupper.....

my impression of Chi singles on fretless is: deep, meaty, powerful and growly. The high end is a bit cushioned though. It's like a transition between еру P and J, but more produced and corpulent

nice review Denis.....been meaning to try a fretless CHI....

My band has our first ever show in Bean Town tonight! I'm super pumped. I'll be rocking my 44-02 all night, will post action shots if they ever make it to me!

wahoo! hope it wen t well!

make sure to post pics on the LOG as well!

So my decade arrived...with the wrong pick-up covers :( Still plays and sounds fantastic though. Pretty disappointed about the looks still.

Hmmmm....what do you mean "wrong pick-up covers"...did you order the chrome surrounds specifically? they are an option now....

That's too bad the wrong Decade showed up. Congrats anyway.

I've ordered a Decade also a couple of days ago, with the original ChiSonics. It's a strange story: exactly a year ago I hád a Decade, but traded it for another bass. In the past year I've become a huge fan of CS's, upgraded a lot of basses with it for others, and did this terrific Jazz for myself:

And guess what? My "CS-Jazz" gets me a lot of tones, and it's my main bass now, but I began to miss that signature sound of a Decade, so I ordered one again. This was my first Decade:

Isn't that true Chi-Love? :D

nice looking bass! I am getting used to the Jazz bodies with the CHIsonics....looks better and "less crowded" in teh full sized jazz body to me..

Evan...yours looked HAWT but I like the space in the full sized body better... (JMHO!)

Sure sounds like CHIlove....

Count me in on that particular quest :)

Andy

maybe.....got alot of Lakies I "need" first!

Hopefully in a couple of months I'll finally have MY semi-hollow with Chi's (going on 10 months since I commissioned it!). It won't be fretless, but it'll rock!

I am guessing it will be GREAT as well! I cannot wait to see/hear it!

So I managed to get ahold of a lot of pictures. Only posting the ones with good shots of the bass to keep the thread on topic though!

you and your purple!!!!

I'd love it if it had 70's pickup spacing, an third pickup (a humbucker between the single coils like an Atelier Z?)

"custom" pickups (like 3rd pickup etc) might be an option in the VERY near future....:ninja: stay tuned!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not the DJ. The new DJ must be this:

Personally I dislike the jaguarish shape and I think there was nothing wrong with the DJ. I like it this way.
