I saw that bass on some japanese before but thought it was a one off.
The color..you know..Its not too bad. I think the upper part of the pickguard could have been shaped , maybe a little different..but all in all its not too bad.

Funny: When I first got my 55-02, I thought 'man, that dinky li'l lower horn sure throws the shape off.' Strange how I can now see what I *thought* they should all look like, and really not like it.
Maybe it's just because I'm used to the normal 55-XX shape.
...or maybe it's because the pickguard, colour and gold hardware are simply crass. Yeah, that must be it...
EDIT: Actually, the more I look at it, the more I like the shape. I still hate the colour, guard and gold, though. In a big way. Doesn't look like they've changed the innards at all... Surprised they didn't CHI it.

Errr .... okay, pink is not one of my favourite colours for a bass, but it will sell to some, so .... whatever.
Some will be put of by the loss of high-fret access (surprised no-ones mentioned that side-effect of the lower horn rework) but wouldn't bother me at all.
And if you're going for a boutiquey touch like ebony pickup covers, why spoil that by adding a pearloid pickguard ?
All-in-all .... give me a 55-94 (but with ebony pickup covers against a natural finish please

And I agree - it looks outrageous. It's a bit like buying a Ferrari and then giving it all the really rubbish mods boy racers put on Citroen Saxos.
But I do like the concept behind this Lakland - there seems to be a much more 'experimental' feel to the company at the moment. And this is one person's dream bass, so lets all chill out a bit. Maybe Lakland shouldn't have put it out on general release, but by the looks of things this is a purely ESP-manufactured Lakland, so Lakland themselves know that this isn't going to be a big seller - how often do you see Lakland/ESP Shoreline basses up for sale?!
They're being a bit brave, and I applaud them for that. Remember the abuse the Decade body shape got when it came out?

Do all Lakland 5 strings have 19mm string spacing? I'd like a Lakland but need tight spacing. Thanks.
