Hey, what do you think of the JO?

I'm shoppin around and getting ideas.

Man, it's the best bass I have ever owned. Better than my MIA Fender J, my 80's Fender P, and my '86 Alembic. It's an '08 Skyline JO and it will definitely not be my last Lakland. The action is low and responsive to a light or medium attack, and the B string sounds like a million bucks. Check one out if you have the chance.

I was only a little irritated about my order, now I am completely pissed off. Bass was offered in one color only, so how does one get the TSB Log Bass.

I'm almost certain that the one shown on Carl's site is the initial stages of a prototype unit. Then, it (or one like it) was sent to Markus to develop/propose "weathered" style graphics for it.

The concept is very cool. Take the components/guts from an active late model Lakland, install them in a rugged/galvanealed type enclosure, provide a Tuner Out, retain battery power, and addition of External DC input option.

By looking at the overall prototype package, I'd assume the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) is in fact the same one used in the active Lakland basses. I say this because it appears that all connections are mounted to the enclosure as individual components (pots, 1/4" jacks, and DC input) and no power LED. If it were a newly designed PCB, I'd suspect there would be a power/active LED, placement of pots would be equally spaced, and the DC input jack would be a PCB/surface mounted type.

It has that rugged "Old School" look to it as-is. Which is intriguing.

Thanks! Those are just printed on my inkjet, using avery labels with are matte. The production version will be much better.



He he he! Read above. Carl wanted a rough look for the graphics so I went with the cold war Russia look...red and all. The knobs were the ones it came with.

I checked his site (by Markus, will be my educated guess). The stompbox ispictured with jazz-bassy knobs. So the one shown above is, or should be, a lawsuit copy.

I worked this out with JP because I wanted a TSB bass.

I agree that it's weird to see a 'burst one after all the noise about the colour. Personally, I have no current intention of ever owning a 'burst bass, and I find the colour they went with to be freakin' swish. But I can definitely understand your discombomulation if one LOGer was offered something the others weren't. If, right?

But we know nothing about how this bass came about, so perhaps we should just ask.

So, like was it received as a Butterscotch colored bass, then as a secondary process the bass was sanded down and refinished as an optional up charge?

If this is how it went down, everyone has the right and ability to do what they want with theirs. However, it is interesting that this custom bass was delivered so quickly if it had to be striped, prepped, painted, finished. I'm just sayin'.

Any details provided would help us better understand the order of events...

Look at it this way, a LOG s/n'd neck could be installed on a Jerry Scheff body. Does that make the then custom JS a LOG bass? I'd say not. However, the only tracking mechanism is printed on the head - so maybe it would be.

I was very close to getting a LOG bass as well - only with an Ebony Lined Fretless neck. However, I was told that I would have to pay the typical up charge of $100 and would not get the LOG serial number on the ELF neck. I questioned the ability to clone the s/n on both necks - that discussion went into a tangent of me asking for fraudulent activities. If I also wanted the original neck, I'd have to pay more - not quite right from a collector's point of view if you ask me. If I chose NOT to get the original neck, where would that one be used later on down the road? Since they don't tamper with S/Ns, maybe to make a 31st LOG bass - who knows?

I agree, no anger should be towards the owner of the Bass he bought what was offered up.

I don't like the color of the LOG bass, but I did it to support the group and the effort to get a limited edition bass for all of us. If there is too much complaining and bemoaning, what incentive is there for Lakland to make custom runs for us in the future? Especially at that price. I remember early in the conversation, discussing the logic that if I wasn't happy with the color, it was priced so reasonably that if I had a custom finish done for me, it would still be reasonably priced for a custom bass, which is exactly what I'm doing. $330 from Pat Wilkins (who does Lakland's custom finishes anyway). I'm taking mine there on Tuesday to get it done in exactly the color that I want. I'm not pissed at Lakland, I'm not pissed at Orlando. I didn't ask if that was an option and Orlando had the ambition to do so. Not his fault for being proactive about his wants and desires. I give him props for being smarter than I.
I look at it this way. Instead of having a 1 of 30 limited edition bass, I'll have a 1 of 1 limited limited edition bass.
