LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #48

Honestly, I think we're all kind of blowing this out of proportion. I don't like the color of the LOG bass, but I did it to support the group and the effort to get a limited edition bass for all of us. If there is too much complaining and bemoaning, what incentive is there for Lakland to make custom runs for us in the future?...

Great points... Although it works both ways, if you upset the customer base by not disclosing all options available to everyone, what incentive is there for the customers to stick around and support custom runs or any runs in the future?

Another way to look at it - Generally speaking, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to satisfy the customer, not the other way around. They are the guys making a profit, right?

Just got my Bob Glaub LE Teal Green back from Lakland...with repaired circuit, new "vintage" Hansons and new case (both the electronics and case being damaged in shipping from Bass Central) and all I can say is wow. Just got back from rehearsal where I got to try it through my new head, a GK 700RB II. My Fralin loaded 50's Classic P and Jazz bass are going to be on vacation...a long vacation. In my correspondence with JP, I mentioned how I wasn't digging the neo's (not that they are bad, but that IMO they suit more modern styles) and he offered to drop in the vintage Hansons for nothing. This is the best customer service I've recieved from just about anywhere, instrument company or not and I can't say thanks enough.

wow! GREAT news!!! I knoew John woud take care of you.

I made a little recording...

Hopefully this works.

I played a YouTube video into my mixer and played along with it.
My P5 with the vintage pickup has all the highs rolled off and the volume is wide open.
I'm playing into a SVT patch and recorded with Audacity.

Excuse the mistakes, I was just trying to get something down...

VERY nice Orlando! love the sound and the playing....that Vintage rocks!

Somebody Stop MEH!

I'm pulling a DOUG!!!

You mean a Super-wave? happens to the best of us.... he he!!!

Here's the Lakland JO I recently bought - may I have a number?

nice...PM me for a number and make sure to check out: Link Removed

peace:

Doug

There's so many ways to take that... you're going someplace cool and not taking a picture? You want to ruin a perfectly good P with a J? You want to use "teh" instead of "the" EVERY SINGLE TIME? You ordered a custom color but want to refinish it? You want to make 42 responses in a row? LOL. Sorry, I love ya Dougie, just curious what O means!

Laughed REALLY hard on this one Randy!!!!

That's the best laugh I've had all day!

I would agree....well - except for a little Pack VICTORY a couple of hours ago....THAT was teh best...this is second best (sorry on both accounts Randy!)

My LOG bass has shipped! The irony is that I'm flying into Chicago the day before it's scheduled for delivery. So it'll be sitting at home for 3 days waiting on me. :bawl:

man - that sucks!!!! wish you could pick it up here....did oyu ever arrange for a tour?

I've never been accused of being handsome that I recall... I have the face for radio and the voice for print as they say...

That must be some other guy you are thinking about... Too funny.

LOL (the third best laugh all day!)

I personally think the relic/rustic screen printing design is an awesome idea. Looks like it's been rode hard and put up wet for another day of abuse. Let's face it, these type units are designed to be on the stage floor and stomped on again and again. It's what's inside that counts.

I agree on all counts.....love the rustic set up myself....

I just picked up the DJ5 in LPB on the classifieds here. Can't wait to feel the wrath of a Lakland bass.

yahoo! feel it you will....Yeeeesssss!!!

Will there be a Skyline equivalent to the 44-51?

Not yet.....maybe someday...

I agree.....I had a MIA Fender replaced with a Skyline.....

I have played MIA Fender P5s and J5s and they do not compare to the Skylines I now own...

Man, it's the best bass I have ever owned. Better than my MIA Fender J, my 80's Fender P, and my '86 Alembic. It's an '08 Skyline JO and it will definitely not be my last Lakland. The action is low and responsive to a light or medium attack, and the B string sounds like a million bucks. Check one out if you have the chance.:bassist:

Very cool! Only - don't blame us when you forget about or end up donating your Stingray to a charity afterwards... j/k

Welcome!

yup....."other basses" just seem to disapear....for many of us anyways.....

To be honest, the other bass player at church got a new MM and I ahve always liked MMs.....I was on the prowl for a nice MM 5er - then I realized I did not liek the string spacing or the 34" scale.....also realized that I justr simply love Lakies! I am back for more Lakies and will get teh MM sound I want from a Lakie!

Nothing like a good shellacking!

laugh it up big guy!:D

If there is too much complaining and bemoaning, what incentive is there for Lakland to make custom runs for us in the future? Especially at that price. I remember early in the conversation, discussing the logic that if I wasn't happy with the color, it was priced so reasonably that if I had a custom finish done for me, it would still be reasonably priced for a custom bass, which is exactly what I'm doing. $330 from Pat Wilkins (who does Lakland's custom finishes anyway). I'm taking mine there on Tuesday to get it done in exactly the color that I want. I'm not pissed at Lakland, I'm not pissed at Orlando. I didn't ask if that was an option and Orlando had the ambition to do so. Not his fault for being proactive about his wants and desires. I give him props for being smarter than I. :p
I look at it this way. Instead of having a 1 of 30 limited edition bass, I'll have a 1 of 1 limited limited edition bass. :D

I agree with Greg - thanks Steve....more to come in a later post

The folks at Lakland were only trying to be accommodating.
I worked this out with JP because I wanted a TSB bass.

Would it make you feel better if I told you it wasn't a LOG bass?
Don't be pissed off. Please...

Sorry ST, I should have not posted anything, not in my nature, just a little upset about something else sort of related.

Bass looks awesome and sounds great, but I mean after all, it is a Lakland : )

Glad you got it worked out to your liking, enjoy and please accept my apology.

your instrument attracts attention. Is that inacceptable?;)
I think it's partly because there's too much unusual in it - it is a P5, b&b-necked, LOG-numbered LOG bass which is painted in an unexpected color. Just a bit over the edge, he he
I think it is great

Thanks Doug!
I've been playing this thing none stop.

Thank God for my wife who thinks I'm Marcus Miller and never complains about how much noise I make...

Or how much time I spend playing...

"Honey, they're showing Boomerang on TV, are you coming from the cellar? ... I really think they should've brought the music forth. Eddie Murphy underplays in some episodes so that would save the movie..." etc.etc.

Hey, that sounds great. :)

Did you manage to get rid of all the original bass ? (Obviously the sound is going to be mostly yours or you wouldn't have uploaded it). I'd be interested in what you did.

And how did you get an 'SVT patch' in Audacity ... you mean your own EQ to bring it close to an SVT ?
