Having lurked for awhile, and joined as a "Gold Supporting" two weeks ago, I would expect my experience on TB isn't that different from many of yours:
  • Very first TB PM: "Hey TXLawDawg, I want to buy that 55-02 Deluxe you are selling".
  • Very first Lakland: The gently used Cherryburst 55-02 Deluxe FedEx just delivered. (TXLawDawg worked some magic to get a Saturday delivery. Christmas, 6 months early!)
  • Very first TB Forum Post: This one. "It's my first Lakland, happy in its new home."

(I bought this one because the finish matched my wife's stained glass work, and the rosewood fingerboard complimented our hardwood trim efforts in our ongoing Victorian renovation. :smug:)

A +1 to Chef's motivational messages on the FS post. I think he happened to transition his Valenti to Mr. Dawg from that thread. The TB gear cycle continues...

Glad to now be an official, GAS-enabling participant. I look forward to some interesting interactions with all of you characters.
warmest congratulations on your new bass, your stained glass and your gifted wife*. You need to remember that, 'no pics-no victorian renovation', that's a rule.
From your message I foreknow you're some character that will suit to this team, so welcome aboard!

* now Markus will have to behave himself or we'll know whom to adress to make all sorts of cool visual stuff, ha!

Congrats and welcome aboard! Love the cherryburst. If you'd like a LOG number, shoot a PM to basspraiser. Also, check out Link Removed for more discussion and general silliness!

Gifted, and also understanding of my music hobby. She's classic (25+ years on clarinet, now studying cello), and has me 1-0 on ensemble gigs at Carnegie Hall. :)

As for the "no pics..." comment, JohnDough247 "sig'd" it, and I have no clue what it means!

Had a 55-02 just like that years ago, might still have it if I could still play 35" scale basses.
This is a meaty bass for sure. Interesting change to 35"/19mm from my 24"/17.5mm Ibanez 405. I have pretty big mitts, so it feels just right. And the B-string is solid. Actually, the increased tension on all of the strings seems to give me more range to play with. Got it under my hands for a few hours today, and I am very happy.

Welcome! Love the bass, and your wife's work! Very nice!!!
Thanks. She has many talents. I get to do the technical drawing, but it's always her vision. (Invalid Link Removed)

:(

:hmm:

got me excited for a minute there.....sounds like you got a good plan though...

NO NO NO... I wish!
It's not coming back.
I'm getting a J4 made just like it though. I sent in close up pics of the finish (the burst on that one is special), the guard and everything... birdseye inlays. The onlything different is that i'll have big singles and a different looking headstock (callowhill).

I love Laklands like crazy, but his 34" scale basses seem more compact and easier for me to play. A short scale Decade is up on my list.

:hyper::cool::D

wahoo Denis!!!!

so...how long "on the brown boat" before it gets to you????

I REALLY think you will LOVE it...played mine today and fell in love with it again.....GREAT sounding bass...can get mellow or grindy with a tweak of the tone knob and a little different finger styles...

I know a secret potion to this magic! I sent my new-to-me Skyline to Carl and, among other things, it is getting a US-like treatment to the back of the neck

BTW, Carl wrote to me the bass is ready. Now for another little thing and... woooooohooooooo!!!

GREAT idea all around.....good luck and let us know what happens...

Yea sending it straight to the source might work out better, they might have the correct paint and won't need the body to color-match the inca silver.

Planning on designing a different guard for the scheff, using the curves of the original with a ling tail that would extend to the knobs, still a work in progress...gonna make it a black pearl, should go nicely with the black tapewounds and ebony board...whatchu think guys?

bummer man...sorry to hear that....I was going to do this with a DJ a few years ago and Dan suggested against it...said the binding would be an issue with the defret.....

keep the one you like best anhd get a fretless JO (oops - sorry 44-60 or 55-60).....problem solved...I KNOW the body and neck are slightly different BUT......Seros would fit in the JO....jus' sayin'....

^ nope,...his suggestion was to just convert one over. Giving it some thought, but I think it would just be too problematic. The inlays are what worry me the most on a conversion. I can see them last just long enough for me to fall in love, and then problems arising. An epoxy/CA fingerboard treatment could prevent that, but I'm not sure I would want to go that route. Gonna just back burner the idea for a while and give it some long hard thought.

WOW! alot of "firsts"!...AND looks like alot of thought into how you got this "very one"....congrats on a GREAT bass and one that "fits"...always an easier sell to the spouse if you go the "look.....it matches the.....(fill in the blank)"

Maybe I NEED to try that argument....lessee....what can I match?????:D

PS - are you infering your wife DID the stained glass? either way - VERY nice....if she DID, even more impressive....I like stained glass

....well, ACTUALLY...he is (again) a part time Lakland employee......

sad to hear that. BTW, I actually meant accomodating a neck blank from another model to the DJ5
On the other hand, $300 is not that much for getting a custom bass from the hands of Lakland's head luthier - OK, former head luthier. As a matter of fact, he's just finished some custom work on my bass and I'm paying comparable money
