email [email protected] for a price......not sure what the prices are now...you would LOVE it though.....

Yea sending it straight to the source might work out better, they might have the correct paint and won't need the body to color-match the inca silver.

Planning on designing a different guard for the scheff, using the curves of the original with a ling tail that would extend to the knobs, still a work in progress...gonna make it a black pearl, should go nicely with the black tapewounds and ebony board...whatchu think guys?

If I were me, that's what I would do!!!

The "Black Pearl" sounds fitting too!

Hey, guys. Quick question. I'm dropping an Audere into my 55-60 with Lakland pickups. The pickup wires are Bridge (Black and Green) and Neck (Black and Red). I'm assuming the black is the common wire for both, but gosh it sounds like arse when I connect them up that way and blend the pickups. Solo each pickups sounds fine. Should I just reverse one side or what?

Reversed the wiring on one pup, and it sounds great (thanks, Markus!). I haven't had an Audere pre for a while now, but have always loved them. I had forgotten how great they are if you really want your passive sound to come through as much as possible yet have some better EQ and pickup balancing options. My 55-60 is now perfect. Now I just need to get an Audere for the DJ.

I ran into the same situation when I installed the correct Chrome Lipstick Tube Pickups on my Skyline JS4... simple change of one pup wiring, and it was Good To Go!... I still love that bass (as well as my US JS4 and the new to me 4-94D).

Heard back from Carl on the DJ5 neck blank. It's a no go all the way around. If one were available, would run $400. He suggested converting one of the necks to fretless, around $300. I'm thinking I may just sell the already modded '06 and keep the '04 with the original aero's,....unless of course, someones got a DJ5 fretless neck lying around they just dieing to sell......:hiding:

Jason,

Yeah, why not make the black common in both pickups?
I got a spare DJ Audere I could sell you, PM me.

Bummer... Did he say anything about using a regular 55-60 neck on it?

^ nope,...his suggestion was to just convert one over. Giving it some thought, but I think it would just be too problematic. The inlays are what worry me the most on a conversion. I can see them last just long enough for me to fall in love, and then problems arising. An epoxy/CA fingerboard treatment could prevent that, but I'm not sure I would want to go that route. Gonna just back burner the idea for a while and give it some long hard thought.

Wow, missed this one. Sub'd! And 'cause it's so pretty:

Having lurked for awhile, and joined as a "Gold Supporting" two weeks ago, I would expect my experience on TB isn't that different from many of yours:
  • Very first TB PM: "Hey TXLawDawg, I want to buy that 55-02 Deluxe you are selling".
  • Very first Lakland: The gently used Cherryburst 55-02 Deluxe FedEx just delivered. (TXLawDawg worked some magic to get a Saturday delivery. Christmas, 6 months early!)
  • Very first TB Forum Post: This one. "It's my first Lakland, happy in its new home."

(I bought this one because the finish matched my wife's stained glass work, and the rosewood fingerboard complimented our hardwood trim efforts in our ongoing Victorian renovation. :smug:)

A +1 to Chef's motivational messages on the FS post. I think he happened to transition his Valenti to Mr. Dawg from that thread. The TB gear cycle continues...

Glad to now be an official, GAS-enabling participant. I look forward to some interesting interactions with all of you characters.

sad to hear that. BTW, I actually meant accomodating a neck blank from another model to the DJ5
On the other hand, $300 is not that much for getting a custom bass from the hands of Lakland's head luthier - OK, former head luthier. As a matter of fact, he's just finished some custom work on my bass and I'm paying comparable money
