I had to send my beloved 55-60CS to Lakland because my Chi-Sonics were giving me hum even when both pickups were all the way open. Leo sent me an email to let me know that it's on it's way back to me today with brand new pickups. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow so I can use it on my gigs this weekend. In the mean time I've had to play my BFR(All Rosewood Neck) StingRay 5 which is great, but it still made me miss my Lakland BIG TIME.

Cheers to Leo and Lakland for a quick fix on an amazing bass.

Is the 44-02 supposed to be noiseless as in no hum? I checked out the wiring and the cavities are all shielded, but even with the balance set to center, both pickups wide open and the MM not split it's developed a ground hum. I even removed and sanded the bottom of the bridge (to ensure metal to metal contact) I put on to make sure that the ground lead to the bridge was indeed touching. I have to touch the strings, bridge, etc. to cancel it out. And to top it off touching the screws on the neck pickup causes it to get louder. Any help would be appreciated.

Nice Brandon! you actually preferred the Skyline P51 huh? I was REALLY tempted by teh Us one last time I was there...but gotta sell right now not buy....

I was in Chicago about 10 days ago for a gig, and had a great visit with Leo and the crew at the Lakland factory. I met all the builders and played some cool basses, mainly the US and Skyline '51 models (I preferred the Skyline), and the Active J - that bass is a funk machine!!!!

EXACTLY! I have the same one (Nordy) in my PJ5 and the vintage in my LOG bass...

gotta lovr a bass company that gives you 3 pickup choices "right outta the box"! and with such a wide sound range as well!

hmmmmmm Brian...not sure...mine are quiet (55-94)....sounds like you tried all of the "fixes" I would suggest....

did it just start? maybe it is the dryness of the air? just coming up with ideas.....

if all else fails, email the Doctor (chicago bass doctor that is!)

Funny (well, not). I just noticed that all three of my L's have this issue. I swear that it is a recent occurence, at least in one of them. Same exact behavior as yours: Hums with the pups wide open, hum goes away when you touch the strings/bridge.

I did get a note from one source that suggested running another ground from the sleeve lug on the jack to one of the pots. Haven't tried that yet. Going to take one of them to my local tech to see what he suggests. If I find out anything definitive, I'll shout. If someone else has a suggestion, shout back at us!

Hey Doude, yeah I'm in the PDX area of Oregon, you know soggy town USA, don't think it's a dry air thing. Thanks for the suggestion on the bass doctor.

Yep, it's just this past couple of weeks and it is coming and going in terms of how pronounced it is. Would really appreciate a report back once your tech has a look.

To be quite honest, the wiring in the 44-02 is a rat's nest so not sure if I want to tackle adding another wire. When I first opened it up to check if it was a loose connection I was kind of surprised - just not what I expected in a Lakland.

Hey, I was at that show! Sorry to say that the only bass I could hear in your mix was when you played the Gretsch White Falcon (love that bass). It was a fun set, best of luck on the tour!
