i have a older lakland ser#333 i purchased at least 10 years ago ...

I guess you or lakland must have checked Invalid Link Removed but anyway, that seems to narrow it down to "4- 94, 4- 63, 4- 76 or 4- 07". You probably need to describe pickups and control knobs to get any further, or better yet, upload a picture.

My new 55-01 is amazing! I love my quilted blue finish! it has a better sound than way more expensive basses.

I think I am going to bag the tuner upgrade. I really want to do it but the fear of messing up the neck is setting in. I am actually not at all worried about jacking up a tuner or two by accident. Those are easily replaceable. But these early Skyline necks are fantastic and this one is jazz width. I just am not sure I want to take that risk.

The oil finish has been applied though and it is a killer upgrade. It feels a ton better and it is not identifiable even thought the finish has aged a bit. I only took a photo or two BUT I do want to post an after photo to show how invisible the mod is.

sorry about the tuner upgrade....LOVE the oil finish! the oil finish on BOTh the CB550 and the 55-76 seem incredibly wonderful....more so than others....

Maybe not super visible, but I'm actually playing my 55-60 here. Not that you guys care...

Here, I'll save you the trouble.

A nice top is sweet to look at, but a nice bottom makes everything right with the world. And we all know that with Laklands, we have the most awesomest bottoms.

i have a older lakland ser#333 i purchased at least 10 years ago its quilt top cherry burst with what seems to be birds eye maple neck. i have no idea what model it is contacted lakland and they couldnt tell me very much they said early records were not very well kept. it has active bart p/u its 4 string.i would like to what model it is. i may be wrong but i dont they had very many like they do now.

post a picture and I will tell you in a minute....probably a 4-94....

OK, stop me if this has been covered but I am just curious. When you have the option for stringing through the body or just through the bridge alone which do you and is there any noticeable, audible difference either way?

You will notice no difference.

You will, if the winding is short on the B and E strings (happens on pre-cut for 34" strings), or if the core is too long with bridge-side tapering strings

And I sometimes string 3 highest through and 2 lowest on top. That makes it even so cooler! Also, founder of LaBella, IIRC, offers this way to improve sustain on highest and precision on lowest strings. Last but not least, it causes questions all the time, so can I pretend to be wise owl

I stripped the finish off of the back of the neck on my Skyline and am in the process of applying a tung oil finish. It is turning out great and is not at all visually different from the satin finish that is already on (I left it on the front and back of the headstock). Next up I am going to start the long journey of adding the Hipshot HB1 tuners.

I renewed the tung oil finish on my 55-94 (back and face-sides) myself and had Carl change the finish for the tung oil on my LOG bass. I like it a lot, I guess I'll have to get used to satin once I have another Skyline... or apply tung oil again!

Yes. The existing holes are 9/16 and the US Hipshot vintage style tuners are 11/16. So the holes need to be slightly enlarged. The second part is that the tuner spacing is tighter on the Skyline so you actually need to slightly mod the tuner basses by removing/sanding away a bit of the width.

That second part I am not worried about. If I mess one up it is easy to buy a single tuner to replace it. But if I mess up the first part I ruined a neck. And I just don't have the proper tools to make me feel secure with that mod.

this one I don't get. If you are after the looks, this is one thing (but I myself wouldn't bother drilling the wood for the sake of shiny string posts). If you're after the gear ratio and feel you can just change the mechanism. I did this when I had some Ultralites ordered that turned to have a wrong string post size.
Also, I actually prefer the gear ratio of the licensed Ultralites.

Enlarging the existing Skyline Tuner holes for the US Style HB1 and optional BT1 Drop-D Tuning Machines can be done with method and patience. This project is not for everyone however.

Note - All 4 holes must be enlarged. Only the G, D, and A String Tuning Machines require the bottom edge of their flanges to be trimmed/milled. This approach is what allows the optional BT1 Drop Tuner to be installed. Take your time, "measure twice, cut once" - The Juice Is Worth The Squeeze! Ha.

If you are asking why I took on this project, I'd likely first respond with "Because I was told it could not be done!" the folks at Lakland said the same thing. I purchased the MLF neck and since they do not come with tuning machines installed as an assembly, I took the project to a whole new level.

44-02d cherryburst has the bartolini setup. The others have the LH3. I'm trying to find the 55-02d match for the TSB. I like matching pairs. So yes, OCD is involved.

They are very similar but very different. The Lh3 has a hotter output, and is slightly more Hifi. If I could choose as an option from factory, I would go with the Barts, but in no way am I disappointed with Lh3. Both are great systems.

Yes, the OCD spills over. I prefer fair skinned, blue or green eyed women.
