Lakland Owners Group #54

You would have thought so, but I cut'n'pasted the info from laklands own serial number PDF.

Sorry, I just looked at the PDF again, seems that the line that covers bass #333 says "313-418, 99-01-99-20 1999" (what I quoted before was the header for that section, not the line appropriate to your bass). Not quite sure what that all means, maybe its model 99-01 or 99-20 made in 1999 ?

OK...here are some photos. I did take some progression shots of the neck refinish but to be honest, they just weren't exciting. They pretty much looked the same all the way along.

Here is a headstock group shot:
And here is a shot of the back of the neck. As you can see there is not visible distinction that the neck was refinished with an oil finish. In fact as you can see from the headstock shot, the Skyline finish has aged a bit and the oil finish matches that with no issues. I am not sure if that means a non-aged finish would show more. Somehow I doubt it. I think the finish is a good hue that blends in well with anything in a certain range.

After looking at the comparison headstocks I think I much prefer the color choice on the US Lakland logo and I wish they would have carried that over. Also I don't mind the US ultralite tuners but wish that they had a long stem (and preferable reverse would as well) option in the ultralites. That is the main reason I wanted to switch. I like P style basses with the long stem tuners.
Can I have the white USA Glaub, pretty please?

not sure if I get you right but the Ultras are reversible (one and the same tuner can be used on either side of the headstock of a 55). Unscrew the hex screw at the end of the "stem" and stick it from the opposite side. Loosening the gear may be necessary too
Yeah sorry...I meant reverse winding like vintage tuners where you turn the peg in the opposite direction.

Words can't explain how much I love that bass. I have no urge to let it go. not even a slight urge. In fact I don't have any urge to get rid of any of my basses anymore. I do want to add a Hofner and a Danelectro to the herd but no more pruning for me.
I am in full on amp gas mode though. I really want a mesa walkabout.

Naw, I had always been A Fan of the Mesa gear I have heard over the years.
Just never broke down and blew the cash for it.
But now I think I am about to.
So we shall see if it is tonal nirvana or just another stepping stone rig to eventually find what I fall in love with?

I agree on the length of the tuners...regarding the differences in teh logos, this is ANOTHER way to asure that Skylines are not passed on as US models....

Johnny, as a P bass guy who's had a Walkabout for almost 5 years, I gotta say--do it! You won't regret it. They fit together so well.
Hehe. Dan, I saw you were considering a Mesa 610 to go with a Mesa head. Let me tell ya, the Walkabout may be "only" 300 watts, but it will get stoooopid loud with my Berg 610! I think it's their best-sounding head, YMMV. But you won't need a more powerful amp with that cab unless you're planning on playing metal in arenas.Yea I have bad Mesa G.A.S. too.

Ha! I got mine before I met Markus. Aguilar makes really nice stuff, I just haven't found a non-tube head that does it for me like the Walkabout.You guys are all way too much under influence of Markus...
Can anyone give me some quick advice? I have a lakland 55-94 AJ the tiger grey quilt top from the website. Just got an SKB 44 case for it. Though the case closes, it seems the headstock is right on the edge of the case. Will this effect my set-up? Or bend the headstock? The foam inside seems very forgiving and that it will form around the bass with some use. Any info will help. Thanks

I THINK, I settled on a Mesa M-Pulse 600 head.
Found a minty used one WITH the elusive foot controller.
Great price! THINK I am pulling the trigger on it.
Then THINK, I will settle on a nice used Mesa PH410 cab for starters. ( found one used )
Then might add a Mesa PH210 to it later on???
