First time I've every played one, amazed at the tones that come out of this bass.

have you seen the Tony Levin Rhythm Sticks video? do a search on youtube. interesting gizmos. I would never use them, but I suppose Tony has tried pretty much everything under the sun to sculpt bass tone.
Were you a previous owner, or is this just "a black thing, and I wouldn't understand"?

I've goofed off before, playing w/ a drumstick.... never thought about attaching 2 to my fingers. That's pretty cool! But, I think I'd like a set w/ hard plastic ends.
The "drumstick thing" as you call is pretty fun, and yes I used sticks with nylon tips, but have since adapted the Indian Slap Technique ala Jayen Varma, to get that kind of vibe.

I have a weird, as it may seem, question. A guy I know is on the fence about getting a skyline dj5 or a f****r jb. He asked me if I knew whether the output signal of the first is hotter than that of the latter. Well I don't. Can anyone comment on this? thanks

I had a Skyline dj4, didn't care for the Hanson pickups on that one. To me they were kinda "thin" sounding, so based on this completely single anecdotal opinion, I would expect the typical F.....r jazz bass pickup would be a little hotter. That said, I am also not a fan of the typical F.....r jazz pickups either. As a project bass, I am currently having a F.....r jazz retrofitted with Hanson single coils plus an Audere pre. That, I'm hoping, will be one hot mama JB.

Posting a question on behalf of a fellow NJ/PA bassist. This question relates to a JO that he just picked up (I included his question and pics, which he also posted on Lakland's FB page):
"I just picked up this USA JO Sig bass. The serial # is 0XX. There is no "JO" prefix. The Pot Dates are 10th week of 1997. There is a "Joe Osborn" logo on the headstock. I was told production started in 1998. Evey date on this instrument shows early 97 and Hugh had his hands on this bass. Is this a pre-production bass?? Any Info is very much appreciated!"

Whoa, pretty cool! I don't know the answer myself, hopefully Lakland can clear this up.

If anyone ever begins to get ground buzzing in the neck pickup of a 44-02/94 or 55-02/94 with the Lakland pickups, I can help you trouble shoot it. With the help of Kevin at Lakland, we figured out what my ground issue was. Very simple fix.
Ground wire touching the cavity?
I've got this going on intermittently with my fretted 55-02... rarely happens on a gig or rehearsal... almost always happens when I'm in front of my laptop practicing... so I've put up with it or adapted. But if you've got a quick and dirty fix I'm all ears!

On the underside of the pickup, where the ground wire is soldered, over the "N" in Hanson there is another small tab to the left, over the "H" in Hanson. If the solder from the main ground tab is not in good contact with that tab, then you will get pretty severe ground buzzing. If you want a pic let me know and I'll post on later or email it to you.
Or,
Check for continuity between the Ground and Hot Lead, there should be none. If there is, you can replace the wires with your own or contact Lakland for a new pigtail. They changed the design of the pigtail because the ground would conduct so much heat during soldering that it would melt the insulation on the lead wire.

These Dark Stars and that Mesa head are truly AMAY-ZA-ZA-ZING!!!
A marriage made in heaven for sure.
I cannot wait to replace these Gk Cabs with the new Mesa Cabs and blow the roof off my house.
This U.S. HB has quickly become one of my most cherished basses!
I was playing with the gain on the M-Pulse 600 and had this thing producing some fantastic feedback.
GOOD Feedback and sustain for days!
Now I want more Darkstar loaded basses!!!
(wait, that sounds odd huh?) LOL
First time I plugged it into the new Mesa M-Pulse 600 head.
These Dark Stars and that Mesa head are truly AMAY-ZA-ZA-ZING!!!
