Buzzing in front of the laptop or TV might be helped by shielding the cavity...

Actually already went down that road... copper foil'd the whole cavity... helped quite a lot, but it is still specific to the front pickup so your initial "tab thingy over the N" sounds like a culprit... sounds like I found my weekend project!

If anyone ever begins to get ground buzzing in the neck pickup of a 44-02/94 or 55-02/94 with the Lakland pickups, I can help you trouble shoot it. With the help of Kevin at Lakland, we figured out what my ground issue was. Very simple fix.

Glad you got it sorted, I bet it was the exact same problem mine had.

I saw a few dark star loaded basses in the for sale threads lately.
But they just were not my thang.
So I will keep me eyes pealed for the right one to join my HB
These Dark Stars are truly killer...I wish I had them in a bunch of different basses. Bummer they are about impossible to get now days

I wonder if these Dark Stars could be in an active bass?
I think I only usually see them passive?
I wonder if the bass and amp would exxxxpload into thin air if given a boost of joose from a pre amp?
They already have so much B&^%$s as it is.
I just wonder if it could be possible to slam two darkstars in a 44-94/44-07 style body?
If it would work, sure would be a fun bass...
I would for sure go deaf

I'm a humbucker lover, and a series switch takes the 2 single coils and turns them into one big spread out humbucker. My favorite jazz bass (the only one I've kept actually) has the switch and it stays engaged 99% of the time. I've been wanting one in my Decade w/ singles forever, but just haven't gotten around to hashing out the details w/ Carl. That's why I'm always on the edge of trading and/or selling the bass, it gets no playtime as it is.

Same here.
I like buckers best as well.
I have chi singles passive in the Decade.
And chi buckers passive in the DJ.
I can A-B them back and forth and I like the buckers best.
I actually LOVVVVVE the chi buckers active in the 44-07 the very best...that is amazing!

I Can dig the passive vibe sometimes here and there for a more mellow tone and overall feel.
But something about active buckers works for me.

As of today I officially own a Lakland finally! Got this in a trade, 55-60/Joe Osborn Skyline. I haven't had much time to play it, but I did play for a while tonight and fell in love. Then I gave it a quick set up to get it closer to my specs (will wait until I get some new strings to do a full setup, though it's pretty close) and love it even more. It has an audere preamp installed currently, and it sounds fantastic. I may swap the stock electronics back in someday. I originally wanted a passive jazz bass, but first impressions are this bass sounds so good with the audere that I don't want to mess with it. Anyway, here's a quick pic I took before my phone died. I'll hopefully get some better pictures up soon.

Posting a question on behalf of a fellow NJ/PA bassist. This question relates to a JO that he just picked up (I included his question and pics, which he also posted on Lakland's FB page):

"I just picked up this USA JO Sig bass. The serial # is 0XX. There is no "JO" prefix. The Pot Dates are 10th week of 1997. There is a "Joe Osborn" logo on the headstock. I was told production started in 1998. Evey date on this instrument shows early 97 and Hugh had his hands on this bass. Is this a pre-production bass?? Any Info is very much appreciated!"

didn't someone say they only had the "Joe Osborn" logo on a hundred first instruments or so?

I had a Skyline dj4, didn't care for the Hanson pickups on that one. To me they were kinda "thin" sounding, so based on this completely single anecdotal opinion, I would expect the typical F.....r jazz bass pickup would be a little hotter. That said, I am also not a fan of the typical F.....r jazz pickups either. As a project bass, I am currently having a F.....r jazz retrofitted with Hanson single coils plus an Audere pre. That, I'm hoping, will be one hot mama JB.

to be a bit more specific, are you going to use the same model hansons but with a pre this time?

I've been doing a little work on my basses this week--I'll snap some pics soon--anyway, while I was doing the setups one of my friends stopped by with his JO/44-60. It's actually the first one I owned. I sold it to him 5 1/2 years ago when I got my sunburst JO (which was later ruined in the flood). Since then it's been his main bass--tons of gigs/touring/recording--a real relic Lakland. Sorry the pics are blurry....

I am evily tempted to buy a lakland, trouble is, here in Mexico the exclusive dealer doesn't have any in stock to "test it". Do you think I should buy one without testing it first? I am thinking on a 44-94, 44-02 or a Darryl Jones the new model. Also if you could help me with your knowledge on deciding between models would help a lot. I actually own an Ibanez SR700 with Bartolini MK1 PUs. Thanks!
