Lakland Owners Group #54

Well I am biased.
I wanted to try a Lakland for a long time.
No dealers near me either.
So could not ever actually play one or see it in person.

I finally decided to just go for it.
When that first one came in, I loved that one SOOOOOO MUCH! I turned around and sold a bunch of my bass collection to fund 4 additional Lakland's within a short 40 day period...hahaha!!

So I say just find one ya like and buy it!!
It most likely will lead to buying others :)

As far as which model to buy?
That would depend on the music you play?
I can tell ya their Chisonics are amazing!!

I have an Audere classic 4 band in my DS Decade & it RULES! :bassist:
Much more flexibility in the tone shaping dept & it's clean so the natural awesomeness shines thru.
It definitely moves the furniture 'round & I've noticed that side of the house is begging to list... :help:

My first was a 55-94 and I'd never seen any Laklands in person.... drove nearly 3 hours to pick it up from an ebay seller. I did my research and knew the scale length, neck profile, fretboard radius.... everything was "technically" to my liking. I fell in love instantly, and even more so after plugging it in. Since then, I've been called a Lakland collector :spit: (I play them or they go bye-bye... eventually :D) and have owned probably 20 or more.

I say take the plunge and go all out for a 44-94... as long as you like the specs. The neck should feel similar to a stingray which is PERFECT IMO.

Hey now hold on there, we all know I got first dibs on Black Laklands 'round these parts :)

And to answer the other question about buying before trying, I did with mine and am quite happy with it - Lakland just makes great quality basses that feel great to play as well.

Awesome AWESOME refin on the Decade!
If I decide to hang onto my US Decade, I would love to put that into mine as well.
Might have to get in touch with ya to bug ya with questions sometime.
Did ya send it back to Lakland for the work? Pre? Stacked knobs?

Nope, Pat Wilkins did the finish, I did the Audere (super easy) & the knobs are Audere as well.

Yeah saw that Pat did the paint.
Was curious if ya had Lakland do the electronics.

I highly doubt I could do it.
I am a bonehead in the tech dept and would not want to screw up a pricey US Decade doing it myself.
Do ya think a decent local Tech could do it up right?
I honestly would not wanna risk the shipping to Chi town to Lakland unless really needed.

Dan, you really should bone up on doing the electronics yourself, it will save you a lot of money in the long run and it's fun to boot. You can do your best mad scientist exclamation when it works.

I still think that trying before buying is the best policy, unless one if buying from someplace with a generous return policy. My first skyline was extremely disappointing. The replacement they sent me is much better, though.

These Dark Stars and that Mesa head are truly AMAY-ZA-ZA-ZING!!!
A marriage made in heaven for sure.
I cannot wait to replace these Gk Cabs with the new Mesa Cabs and blow the roof off my house. :D
This U.S. HB has quickly become one of my most cherished basses!
I was playing with the gain on the M-Pulse 600 and had this thing producing some fantastic feedback.
GOOD Feedback and sustain for days!
Now I want more Darkstar loaded basses!!! :hiding:

Nice, Dan! Yes, the DS is some kinda magic. Last time I practiced with my DS-loaded Glaub through my tube amp, I got to the end of a song, hit the last note hard, and just let it ring and faced the cab. It just kept going and going, and eventually started to feedback and distort. I did a slide up the E string, and I swear it sounded like Entwistle at the start of the live version of Pinball Wizard.:D:bassist:

It's actually the first one I owned. I sold it to him 5 1/2 years ago when I got my sunburst JO (which was later ruined in the flood). Since then it's been his main bass--tons of gigs/touring/recording--a real relic Lakland. Sorry the pics are blurry....

Wow, that's the most relic'd Lakland I've seen, Tim! I keep my belt buckle covered when I play, but that rash does look kinda cool. Good to see you posting, man.
