Lakland Owners Group #55!

I'm always looking for a Classic 4-94 w/ a maple board too. Only thing is, the Classics are alder, I'd prefer ash and would also prefer a pre-2k one.

I wanna sparkle-fy it :bassist:.

Don't think that's too big a deal for me, Alder and Ash are about the same tone-wise as far as brightness goes and Alder is a little lighter. Something to think about though.

In another Lakland madness vein, I found a used US Decade with Darkstars, but they want $4K for it. Does that sound reasonable? Seems a little high to me.

That's a tough one. On one side, yes, that is very high for a used Lakland. On the other side, there are no Darkstar Laklands getting made ever again and it looks like no Darkstar pickups getting made anymore. The pickup set alone would probably sell for over $600 on ebay.

I figure US Decades minty with chisonics and Lakland US hard case..... fair used price approx. $1,800 to $2,100 ish.
Add maybe $500 for the darkstar upgrade and $2,300 to $2,600 ish?
But $4,000 is not gunna happen. LOL :eyebrow:

Yes, I know that one very well. The neck is a replacement, it was originally fretless. Furthermore, they really don't want to come down much on the price. $3600 is as low as they'll go.

That's what I call a yay! ow! Good news mixed with ungood.
Yeah, sorry about that Brian. Have patience. Maybe with taxes coming due, someone will unload one?

I'm with Dan, that's crazy-sauce pricing, even with the Dark Star premium.

I would bet money they'll have to come down at least $1000 more if they want to actually sell it, unless they get a desperate overseas buyer. Granted, I haven't actually seen the bass or the listing.

Yep that's the one, just got excited as it's already black and has DS pups. But not excited enough to drop 4k on something that was obviously overpriced in my mind. Just wanted to make sure.

the crowd chants..............

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ITTTTTTTT!!!! :)

Unanimous bro, do it :D
I would wait for the right one to show up used.
They pop up here from time to time.

Would be nice if TB would implement an active search function with alerts. Looks like I may be getting über busy soon, so my bandwidth may be limited to keeping an eye out for one.

Wanna go huntin' Dan ;)

Thanks Greg, no worries, more knowledge is better. I actually don't wish that on anyone - hate to see anyone have to unload gear to pay the taxman. I'd rather wait a little longer and as you said be patient as I'm looking for another keeper.

I don't know guys....a Dark Star Decade probably sold for around $3600 new. So new prices for used basses are alot but here's the bottom line. How many Deark Star Decades were made? Even if Dark Stars were still getting made Lakland would not install them for you. Chi-Sonics are larger than Dark Stars so it's impossible to mod a new Decade to have Dark Stars even if you paid the obscene ebay price.

So what you have is a very rare Lakland that cannot be replicated anymore. How much is that worth to you? If it had both necks and he did $3500 I would say that's not out of the question.

Unless you get one like mine, JK. But I am thinking of replacing my 44-02 with a 44-94, someone please talk me out of it.

are you kidding me????? talk you out of it...TALK YOU OUT OF IT???? where do you think you are son!?

we will encourage every dollar of the purchase...and then some....

well, I mean, if money is no object, get the US. You'll have much the same tones available to you, just in a much nicer overall package.

thar ya go!

I wish that were the case, of course I'm hoping to find one used, black and maple would be ideal, but not that realistic I assume. So would probably need to do a refin. So I don't want to get a nice quilt top or trans and then cover it up with a solid color.

used? nah....just order one....with an ebony board....hmmmm....what a thought! :ninja:

Trans black

Sounds JUST like you JJ! ...although that may be cool!

Solid color -94s are out there, they just don't come up too often. They tend to be some of the cheapest US Lakies on the used market.

yup....great deals no matter the color...that can always be changed!

I'd rather do natural with a matte black pg. Not really into trans anything.

Say What Willis!!!!???? Natural!? are you feeling OK Bart???

I definitely won't talk you out of it; I've been thinking of trading up my 55-02 to a US one for a while... Won't happen in the same calendar year as I get my Sadowsky, simply because I don't want to get left, but it's in my mid-term plan.

"mid-term"....so...is that before or after college is paid for?

stop buying the good hooch and maybe you will be able to aford one...:D
