The hollowbody calls for Chis as well but in a Chi-less world, I'd say it called for darkstars. For the Jazz-style basses, it's really hit or miss. That one looks great because of the finish.

And to me, a P has a split coil or an old-style single. I don't even like the look of a Darkstar on a P bass. But there, we're getting into a whole different subject...

And to answer a post from about 3 pages back (yeah, its been a busy coupl'a days), Each of those 3 white basses is a slightly different shade. The US Lakland is the most vintage looking of the oly white, the Lull slightly brighter, and the DPLEII is bright white comparatively speaking. I've got Cobalt rounds on the US DD, TI Flats on the DPLEII, and Sadowsky black flats on the PJ5. I love them all, natch.

Well I can tell ya that I would not trade the Darkstars in my hollowbody for Chisonics unless my life depended on it.

IMO the HB was made to have a pair of dark stars in it.
The bass has the most massive sound imaginable.

Funny because normally people would never associate the sound and tone that comes out of this HB with what they THINK a "traditional" HB would sound like. :D :bassist:

I know you are a big fan of the chi singles.
I am a big fan of that sonic blue HB of yours no question!
I know it is the only one out there making it even more special.
I have to guess there is not another US HB in shoreline gold out there with a pair of darkstars factory installed either. :D :D :D

In a perfect world, I would keep this and be able to buy that vintage looking white US HB from Beaver at BC with single Chi's to keep mine company :D

I've never played the HB with the Darkstars in it. I have played DS'd basses, but not the HB. I have heard clips before, but it's not the same as playing it in person (duh).

I have played the Chi's in the HB. Very "solid body" sounding. What I mean is that there isn't that "hollow ring" associated with HB basses...the midrange complexity of the pups and the full 34'' scale combine for a very tight, powerful, punchy, sound.

I've also played the Bart loaded HB basses. These are not as punchy as the Chi's. Much more thud and less zing...though with the right eq and rounds it can get annoyingly bright. These give off more of a classic HB sound than the Chi's, but still clear and FULL sounding. Definitely low mid heavy, and these play supremely nicely with dirt pedals.

Again, I'd love to try the DS version, but, for me, the Barts are perfect in this bass. I'm sure if you asked 100 people, you'd get 33 for each and 1 for carrots :D

I'll have to agree with this, I just played my Bart loaded HB wearin rounds thru my newly acquired DB750/212/410 stack & it RULES! :bassist:

How you described the barts sounding in the HB is pretty much exactly how I guessed they would sound. More thumpy and bassey.
More like an old school traditional HB would "suppose to sound".

The thing I love so much about the Dstars in my HB is that it is much more like a rock machine than an Elvis band bass.
This thing will cover all tonal ranges with ease. It is VERY touch sensitive. So when you really dig in and crank the watts, you can get all kinds of snarly voices out of it and amazing monsterous feedback ringing a note for days till your ears bleed! Which I LOVE! :hyper:

Funny, my son texted from his friends house ....2 houses down my street not long ago, telling me to turn down my rig.
He and his friend were in the basement playing video games and they could clearly hear me playing 2 houses down ....in the BASEMENT!!!

bwaaaahhahahaha!!
I loved it..and continued playing a bit longer of course proudly :hyper::hyper::hyper:
