I have stood front row watching Billy Sheehan back in the early days many times, when he was with Buffalo based band TALAS, at many small club gigs.
He used to get his bass to feedback and do things that most bass players could not even fathom.

Billy is a monster player!!
In the TALAS years he would pound his bass so damn hard his hands would be all bloody and bandages and still be playing...hahaha!!

Then saw him on a much bigger stage a few times in his David Lee Roth days going note for note with Steve Vai.

Oh you lucky BASS TURD!!!!! Billy was a huge influence on me in my early days! I had already taught myself to play when I bought his instructional video (VHS) tape and was floored! Talas was already over and Mr Big was just getting off the ground. But, I quickly found and started wearing out Talas cassettes.... learned how to play some of his solos.... the ones that were titled like his names backwards and upside down: NV43345 and h7718 iirc?? Still use pinch harmonics, tapping and 3 finger plucking from time to time but never even tried to become the beast machine that Billy is.

I just never played enough and locked myself in a closet with an amp for months on end to get his chops down.

Yea being I grew up in upstate, NY, Talas was in my town many times each year.
And I went to EVERY gig.
And always pushed to the front row in front of Sheehan!
Funny hearing some of the songs he recorded with Roth and Steve Vy on "Eat em and Smile" and remembering Tala playing them years before in clubs.

Dang I'm envious!!!

I could play some of his stuff, but his 3 finger speed was way beyond my ability!! And the raking technique.... I never worked on that, and it's part of his signature style and speed.

You guys are letting me down, here. Smoke bombs Closed down our Métro ( er... 'subway?') system this morning, so I had to try to find a bus that wasn't packed to the gills. I figured that, while I waited, I'd catch up on TB and this thread specifically.

This thread needs an early-morning shift; almost nothing happened around here after I went to bed last night. Sheesh! Thanks for *not* saving my morning.

yup....the issue was that the 5ers were "shorting out" with the chrome covers. They could not seem to fix this consistently and sometimes the issue would not show up until after the pickup was sealed...it then had to be thrown away..wasting alot of time and materials.

They cannot seem to figure out a way to fit the humbuckers into the existing pickup covers yet....the coils are too large.

lets hope the 55-07 is not "dead"...just in suspension for now...

The current owner, a great guy, told me he had agreed on a trade with a TBer in Alaska, but this other person called it off at the very last minute. Very disappointing. He even created another sale thread but probably deleted it after posting it on eBay. So, it is still up for grabs. I can't buy it back, unfortunately.

They are like a Lakland trademark.
Although Laklands HAVE used Barts and the black Hansen pups as well.
The Chrome Chisonics are always what made a Lakland look like a Lakland IMO.
That and the unique body shape used on the 44-94/44-07 and also the Decade series basses complete it. And of course the cool oval bridge design. :)
