Hey Tat2dHeart,
Happy mothers day!
I'm one of a few that've been under a rock and didn't realize just how many great tunes Dunn had played on, until NOW. I'm really bad about knowing songs that I love like the back of my hand... lyrics, basslines, etc etc but not knowing the songs' names or who played on them. Sad huh. But now that I've been researching Dunn's life's work, I'm in AWE! I keep saying "oh yeah, I love that song and that bass!"
In my today's random googling, I ran across this.....
On a brighter note, I'll be going to the Neon Trees show this Saturday at the Bijou in Knoxville. Taking the wife and daughter... we're glad we'll finally get to see them. Look forward to hearing his new Lakland P w/ single coil Chi.
Just wondering, are 5 string bridges placed slightly closer to the end of the body than a 4 string bridge due to 35" vs 34" scale?
Ok Roadkill (is it Gary?) I'd get a '51 style P built: 1.625 nutwidth, quartersawn neck but highly FLAMED maple, highly figured birdseye fretboard w/ white binding, ebony dots, split Fralin '51 (humcancelling) tele P p'up in standard position and another one (custom built for wider string spacing) placed in 60s J bridge position, 2 stacked v/t pots, nitro CAR on body and nitro on neck also, red tort guard or maybe a cream pearl.
Ok, Ok, I'll pitch in with my dream Lakie:
It would be a 55-AJ, but with twin Chi-buckers, so it's basically a 55-07 with the jazz body shape. Then, ebony fingerboard, quartersawn maple neck. Quilted maple top, in blueburst, matching headstock (without the quilt). Abalone dot markers on the neck. And the preamp would be the Glockenklang three-band preamp, with the control knob layout of the 44/55-AJ basses, plus coil selector switches for the pickups.
Thoughts?
Cheers,
Soundsupport.
My axe came with a little 'sock' for the neck support part of my stand.
PS: I *think* Holsdg is Gary. I'm Jes.
You sir, are have expensive taste. I love it. I tried to order my Sad*sky with abalone dots, but CITES won't let 'em across the border.
Nice choice on the Glock pre. What makes you want that instead of the LH3?

From my Facebook post this morning: your task is to put on a song that's old, funky and has the great Duck Dunn on bass. RIP old buddy.
EDIT: Even better if you dance to said song.
Man, Duck Dunn made me want to play bass. I still remember the first time I saw him when I was a kid watching The Blues Brothers, he was the coolest guy in the band. We are canceling mothers day in my house, and declaring this Duck Day! Rest in peace Duck!!!

I just danced around the home office to a little Green Onions action while the Squirt was asleep and the goodwife was in the shower. Now we're out for mother's day. Good day, all.
Hey Tat2dHeart,
Happy mothers day!
RIP Duck. It's not a Lakland, but today I will play my Fender P with flats in his honor.
Very cool and appropriate!
Thank you. It's a sad day in Mommyland today, though. One of my idols is gone and my most emotionally fragmented daughter is going through a bad spot. I've holed up in my music room and played Green Onions and other random things from the Blues Brothers track all day with the Blues Brothers on the TV on mute. What a way to handle a funk, eh?
Glad I'm not he only one. Been rocking my P bass to Blues Brothers tunes all day.

I know CV, too.
