Lakland Owners Group #56

I was bored Saturday afternoon and felt like doing something crazy. I decided I wanted to swap the necks on my fretted sunburst & maple with my black fretless. On the part that "matters" the Sunburst is an 06 with Lakland PU's and LH3's and the Black is an 04 with Bartolini's and the NTMB-L. The professional shots are the before, the couch shot is the after.

Sound wise, I'm a little up in the air... The bart's a definitely different from the Lakland/Hanson and LH-3. More compressed and "bart-y" Still sounds great though!

What do y'all think?

I like their original look better, but they are still beauties!

I'm with you on the Barts

My first 44-02 has the Barts and I loved the sound. I bought another 44-02 with the LH3 as a backup. The backup is now my main...I really prefer the LH3. Too bad the LH3 system is SO expensive compared to the rest of the market, I would have swapped it out by now if it was on par with the Aguilar or Glockenklang pre's. I may pick up the Aggie pre to pair with the Bart pups. Can't decide.

No! You did not do a bad thing.

The Ebony Lined Fretless neck ties into the Black on both bodies.

Maple on Black rocks!

I like Maple boards too - so either is cool. Go with your gut, you can't go wrong. They are both yours.

The key is to document what neck is on what body. If you ever decide yo sell one and don't change it back, you can at least describe the history to the new owner so they know what they have. In more times than not, the bodies are next to impossible to date.

I like it both ways...keep it...when bored, swap back!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to part with either, but would swap back to the original if I had to for some unforeseen reason.

I'm actually fond of the way the look turned out for both... the Sunburst and fretless just look right together maybe it's the "jaconess" of it... and the black and maple has a slick look as well... I used to play with a guitarist that had a franken strat with the same color scheme and always thought it looked classy.

The barts are still going to take some more getting used to... anyone have any advice on how the pickup height should be set for best performance and sound? They're fairly close now and I'm wondering if that is what is giving me a sound that is best described as "compressed"

Thanks for the encouragement and moral support guys!

AS a new 55-01 fretless owner, I gotta say that now that I have DR Sunbeams on it, the tone is a wicked pissah! Mwah for days!

Question: Is there an adjustment for the overall output of the preamp on a 55-01 if I open up the cavity? The only thing I'm struggling with is that the overall output on the Lakland is so much lower than my EBMM Sterling 5 that I'm not sure how to tweak all of my effects, preamp, etc.

Thanks y'all!

Did you guys notice that Chef sold the Markus Orange Lakkie p5 proto on the classifieds?

I very badly want to own that bass one day. It is, bar none, my favourite Lakland ever.
I did not. However, we have LOGers who scan the classifieds every [del]day[/del] [del]hour[/del]15 minutes, so they probably did.:D That's a great bass!
