Thanks Doug, I've already got a bass built similarly, only the pups are SD 1/4 pounders. It sounds fantastic, but would be even better w/ the hum-free Fralins, very versatile tone-wise. Aesthetically??? Looks great to me .

I currently have the covers off of it cause it looks better (believe it or not--- coming from me lol) without them.

yes....that is part of the reason I cannot figure out why people are so "hung up" over the 34" vs 35" scale thing! ona Lakland it is not s true inch difference....it is much less...

Yeah, me and the Mrs have been singing Neon Trees songs around the house in anticipation LOL. My daughter will flip out when she gets surprised w/ the ticket, and would die if her "old dad" somehow got us backstage to talk bass w/ Branden or meet the band HAHA!!

About the 35" scale thing.... some people swear their hands are so used to the feel of 34s that they can't adjust. I've played so many different basses with varying scale lengths that it doesn't bother me at all. But, I can't argue w/ anyone since I can't play 1.75" P bass necks, but LOVE 1.625... such a small thing that trips me up big time!

Here's a link. You can probably find non Sadowsky-branded ones elsewhere. they also sell a kit for the kind of stand that has the PVC foam for the body *and* for the neck.

If your axe isn't notro-finished, you don't need to worry about it, though. Poly doesn't react to the PVC offgassing like nitro does.

hmmmm...wierd Abalone cannot go 'cross border? I love abalone blocks and dots...

CITES, man. I *really* wanted abalone dots on my Sad, but there's a lot of expensive paperwork involved in not getting your axe seized at the border.

I just picked up a Lakland 44-01 with upgraded pickups (Bart MK4CBC) but the preamp was taken out. I'm trying to figure out what preamp to put in it. I was looking at the Bartolini 5.2AP, Audere Classic 4 band, or the LH3. I'm open to all suggestions.. Thanks!

I just picked up a 55-01 on ebay, as well as a used Glockenklang preamp that I picked up here on Talkbass for $105. I put a set of low riders on it, and finished the installation of the preamp last night. It was a bear to install. I had to drill a larger hole for the volume pot and leave off the washers on the other pots to expose enough threads to secure them. I also had major ground hum issues initially, but after reading another thread regarding a glockenklang install in a Roscoe, was able to resolve these issues by pull back the shielding from the drill holes, and isolating the pots from the shielding with electrical tape (I used a hole punch on the tape). I have a little noise at higher volumes, but I suspect that's the stock MK1 pickups. The glockenklang really cleaned up the mud on the low end. Despite the installation issues, I'm happy with my purchase. This was significantly enough of an improvement for me to stick with the MK1's for a while.

I am coverless on all of mine, but the 44-51. I like the look, but it does get in the way. But the 44-51's over is closer tot he neck, so it's out of the way enough.

Yeah lol, I love the look, but whenever a P has a 2nd pickup, I don't think the covers "work" because that other pickup stands out like a sore thumb.

I was bored Saturday afternoon and felt like doing something crazy. I decided I wanted to swap the necks on my fretted sunburst & maple with my black fretless. On the part that "matters" the Sunburst is an 06 with Lakland PU's and LH3's and the Black is an 04 with Bartolini's and the NTMB-L. The professional shots are the before, the couch shot is the after.

Sound wise, I'm a little up in the air... The bart's a definitely different from the Lakland/Hanson and LH-3. More compressed and "bart-y" Still sounds great though!

What do y'all think?

I think the sunburst looks cool with the darker fretless neck, personally, it got the better end of the deal. Many people (but not me) like the black and tan. I think the black one was better before.

seriously. You can't go wrong with Lo-Riders. I was a fan of the Stainless Lo-Riders for a LONG time, but switched to the Nickels about 4-5 months ago. Maybe it's a maturity thing (not a chance) or the style of music I've been playing (more soul funk and rock than alt rock and heavy stuff) but the nickels sound perfect for where I'm at now. I've also started using 40-120's

For the record, I tried dunlop's and found them to be too short to run through the body. I tried the Sunbeams and they were great for a week or 2 then kind of lost my interest. DR Lo-Riders are the sound and feel I keep coming home to.

I have them on 3 or 4 basses now and really like them quite a bit. good stuff!
