I gotta jump in on behalf of my man Doude and say that tomorrow I will wear the frumpiest shorts I own, and play my Lakkie loud and proud in solidarity.

I always say that, if I'm not at work, I'm not working. I wear some crap on my off hours that would make those shorts look like a bespoke Ozwald Boateng suit.

Amen!!!

I gotta say, for now, my current Lakland is a dream bass. It's got the single coil CS pickup and a nice wide 1.75 man size neck, ha ha. I put Fender medium flats on it and it's a thump machine. I run it thru a Tech 21 VT Bass pedal before hitting my rig (new Fender Super Bassman 300 watt tube head > two Aguilar DB810 cabs). Major palm mute with a pick thump heaven. I step on an EHX Holy Grail for some reverb ambience during some drum/bass moments.

Sounds fantastic! I'll be experiencing some single coil US Lakie P-style fun myself... soon. Moohaahaa!!!!!

Fair enough. For me, my dream bass (which technically I've just received) needs a fancy top. You don't strike me as being a coffeetable bass kinda guy. Of at least, not judging by what I've seen you play.

Hey, didn't I see you playing a Jazz in a vid from
Some live radio station gig or something on the Facebookz?

Ha ha, def not a flamed maple dude indeed. But I can dig a nice grain in some finishes. I love the trans burgundy Lakland does. Or say, Wal basses.

If it was a pink jazz, then I recall recent sessions. Great bass. I also frequent a Geddy jazz here and there. But ultimately I'm a P-bass style guy. Hence all my Laklands are Glaubs of different variety, minus my Decade.

I'll admit that the neck on a Geddy really bugs me, so I've never messed with one that didn't leave me cold. I was never a P guy until I begrudgingly bought my current P. now I'm sold sold sold on them.

Have any of you guys looked over a given makers price list and 'constructed' your dream axe just as a thought experiment? My band and I were on our way to an out-of town gig and I had the F*nder Custom Shop list, so we priced out a master built that cost twice the price of my new Sad*wsky.

If you guys win the lottery and felt like celebrating with your be-all Lakkie, what would you get them to build?

Yes and I ordered it ;) That will be the last "splurge" for quite some time.

Right now I have the laklands of my dreams...but there are always new dreams:-)

Love 1.75 necks too. Ah....p bass...how I love thee!

I need one too! It would come in handy for, uh, play...

OH MY!!!!:eyebrow::eek:

Thank you Jes!!!! I appreciate the support!

"you gotta Frump down" could become a new term!?

As for clothing....my dress has changed drastically over the years...I used to have to wear suits or ties all of the time and maybe owned 1 pair of jeans (and only a few shorts)....now that I work for myself an no one is in teh office but me I still have as many suits (but only wear them on occasion) and the jean/short count has gone WAY up....

also - I used to wear out dress shoes and keep my tennis shoes for years....now it is the other way around!

wow! interesting! I woud not have thought that!

I have mine....the Bubinga top'd bass Carl built me (and it did not cost any more than a Lakie!)

love the 1.75 neck Branden! would love to hear some clips of the single CHI P!

I love the thrill of the hunt, and I'm an addict.

That REALLY is half the fun!

Thanks! glad to get the Dbl J endorsement!

Yes...yes you will! glad that went your way! that bass rawks!

I'll admit that the neck on a Geddy really bugs me,

I agree....that neck is WAY too narrow....I always end up reaching over the neck at teh headstock end!

Yes and I ordered it ;) That will be the last "splurge" for quite some time.

hehe....I know of a BIGGER splurge! but that was "for the family"....

You huntin' wakwands again?

LOL!

Love 1.75 necks too. Ah....p bass...how I love thee!

yupper!

Frumpy? Frumpy? Now my feelings are hurt.....as for fashionable.....see my post above...I DON'T CARE.....

Also...they were packed in a bag for a week.....there was an iron in the hotel but I was lazy...

Now I will just sulk into the corner and cry...

I'm sorry. Really I am. Please don't cry, it'll make me cry. :bawl: At least you didn't dress up in your nicest outfit at a business conference and attend what turned out to be a costume party, then win. Once upon a time I went to one of those events. Turns out when I got there, it was a "Dress Like a Geek/Dork" night. Winning was humiliating - even though the first prize was one of those amazing baskets of future inebriation sort of things that took a hand-truck to get back to my room. :atoz: On another note - my solution to wrinkled clothes is to wear everything so tight that the wrinkles don't stand a chance. :p

Roadkill - see what I was trying to avoid? You just had to go and make me be honest, didn'tcha? :p

You guys aren't expensive enough to be interesting. I go to lottery daydreamland and manage to 'spend' over $10,000 on a Masterbuilt Fender, and you guys can't even come up with a Lakkie that has *something* more than you already have?

Branden gets a 'get outta jail free' card because seeing him with something too 'fancy' would just seem... off, because I've seen him with so many good, solid Ps. Doude? Considering what he's just bought, I think I know what his answer would be.

But I was hoping for at least *somebody* to 'build' a bass we could talk about.

but it actually makes me think of something: If I ever get the scratch together for another NYC Sadowsky, it's going to have another obnoxious top on it. If I could afford a US Lakland, I'm not so sure. It almost seems like, whereas Roger's exquisite taste in wood makes the fancy-topped Sadowsky a fairly common thing, Laklands seem to be more Fendery, with the identity part covered by the bridge and the headstocks.

I think that, if I were to trade up my 55-02 to a 55-94, the top would have to be flamed or something, but the AJ series kind of leaves me cold.

Doude called me in tears. So then *I* started to cry. My 9-month-old was so distraught at seeing her Papa crying that she totally melted down. The missus can't stand it when our kiddo cries, so she broke down in tears.

All because of you and your cruelty, woman!

:SNORT: Okay - if that's your story, I'll let you end it any way the pen takes you.

I'm never unnecessarily cruel though - only fondly candid and out to prevent my friends and family from public humiliation. :p

That said, there's a game we play in my house. It's called, "Are You Gonna Wear THAT in Public?" We plan a trip to wherever (mall, grocery store, flea market, etc.) and we can't leave the house until everyone is dressed in something that makes the rest of the group say, "Are you gonna wear that in public?" It's actually kinda fun. Somewhere out there, we're probably on one of those People of WalMart websites, but I can assure you, I am not purple sweatpants napping on the bench or drunk stripper chick sleeping it off in the cart from beneath the groceries.
