Well, in all fairness, I live in a country where the Queen is still the head of state, and I came up through school being taught that 'color' was a foreign spelling.

The answer, by the way, is simple: a bass always makes one look lithe. Sexy. Fabulous, even. Especially if it's an Amber Lakkie.

I hope you bobbed your head at an angle when you said that, J.:D

The amber is my favorite finish on the -02s, and I have all the more reason to like it since that's also my girlfriend's name. If I ever take the active-bass plunge again, it'll be one of those.

When I last talked to JP (John Pirrucello, Lakland's President), he said it was hard to get those old knobs, as only one company makes them. They just happened to find another supplier. Some argue that these new knobs make it easier to see the white marks while playing in the dark.

Good catch on the springs. I prefer the black ones. Should be an easy mod though.

And wow, a fretless tetsuya! I don't know much about him... Does he play fretless too?

Stock tuners work fine, necks are among my favorites to play.... finish feels fine to me. 70s P p'up sounds as it should, but like I said, Lakland pups are superior in my opinion.

That's cool, JJ. Yeah, the Geddy neck wound up being too skinny for me, too. I like the looks of those '70s Ps, but haven't seen one in a store yet.

Ok heres the thing. The fretless 55-69 was a custom order for someone in the US that i dont know of thru bass club chicago.

However tetsuya owns 200+ basses and still growing!

Ahhh ... à partir de Montréal? Je vous prie de bien vouloir excuser mon horrible français, mais où êtes-vous? Mon patron est de la région de Montréal. Mais je ne suis pas sûr du nom de la ville.

Et vous, mon bon monsieur, sont très habiles dans l'art du compliment. Merci beaucoup. Je pense que vous avez parfaitement raison.

So I stupidly traded my beloved US Lakland Bob Glaub for a Callowhill recently. It was a good deal considering the Callowhill probably cost the original owner close to $6000 to have built. I didn't like it at all, so I quickly sold it to a good friend for a good deal. Now I only have one bass, my US Joe Osborn 4. I need another Bob Glaub. How do you guys like the Skyline Bob Glaubs in comparison to the US models? I had 2 Skyline Joe Osborns in the past and they were very close to the US model I have. I loved them. I just want that dark classic P bass tone. Any ideas? The classifieds have been looking thin for Laklands lately.

My opinion might not match other peoples but I think the early early Korean Skylines are the closest to the US that you will find. 2002-2004 is the target years. The ones being made now are still very nice but I notice more of a difference in them when compared to the US. But in either variation almost all of the difference is in the neck. To some people it's very noticeable.....to others it's not that different at all. I also prefer the Fralin pickup that was in the Korean models. Was your US Glaub a newer one with the Lakland pickup. If so then a newer Indo Skyline would not be a bad choice at all. Otherwise I say open up the search for a Korean one.

I know there is a good deal on an Indo Glaub at a Guitar Center.

Between 'em. In fact, I live a block away from the Lachine canal. Last summer I took some cool shots of my Fender on that Canal; I'm hoping to do the same with the Lakland this year.

PS: the Champlain bridge is totally falling down. It's considered dangerous by many. The Victoria's been there for over a century, and it's still going strong. I guess they don't build 'em like they used to...

Be patient and wait for a US model. Aint nothin like the real thing baby !!! Pickups can be swapped but the neck is worth it!!!

I think I'm going to take Tom P's advice and wait for a US model. As nice as the Skylines are, the necks on the US basses are amazing. Plus, the reason I traded the other Glaub was that it was maple/ash and I think I'm more of a rosewood/alder kind of guy. Maple/ash is just too bright sounding for me.

The search begins...

That's the area I thought it was. It's been many years since I've been up to Montreal. I'll be in Toronto 4, 5, and 6 May for work and to attend a TB friend's show for a benefit. Can't wait for that trip.

That is one I HATED to let go of....BUT alas...found 4 strings are not my thing....the "replacement" (well...the one I got instead) - the 55-76 is doing very well in its stead...but that top is KILLER!
