By the way MarkusBass your pictures of your Laklands have graced my computer backgrounds for quite a while now LOL! I just changed it to the beauty that you posted a couple of pages back, and I enjoy all the banter back in forth about the bass, as I did a little reading and read the previous installments of your threads lol.

any suggestions for a preamp upgrade then? cuz im pretty sure that is the problem....just wanted to see if anyone else had similar issues.

Lotsa great pres out there. Like, lots. Audere makes one that would likely make your bass sound like the voice of god.

I'm fine with the LH3 in my newer 55-02, now that I have one that works. Call Lakland and describe your issue, and they might help you out by either fixing your existing pre or advising you on an LH3 upgrade.

If you want to spend a fair amount of money, you can always get a Mike Pope. At purchase time, you configure the pre to your bass/needs, so you get exactly what you want -- within reason: no two-band pres chez Mike Pope.

Glockenklang also makes a great pre, and the prices aren't as crazy as one would think, as I have recently found out.

For me, the -01 line is a excellent platform for modding, so whereas I'd be reluctant to go slapping all sorts of third-party stuff into my 55-02, if I had an -01, the lower-grade electronics would seem like an opportunity for almost constant experimentation.

Which is why I don't have an -01. I really can't afford to get involved in that kind of money suck.

I think you're high. I wasn't recruited to play outside linebacker at division 1 college level because I'm small and slow When someone says hey have mad skills, that is a tip off that they indeed, do not have such skills. Why am I having flashbacks to 4th grade right now?

I had the same issue with one of my 44-02's. It turned out to be a missed solder on the back of the neck pickup. I re-soldered and problem solved. Does yours buzz more on one pickup vs the other? If so, this could be the issue. Call Lakland, even if it is used, they will help regardless of the issue.

It buzzes on all pickup settings, more when I turn up the treble though.

If you are using Dimmer type light switches in or around the room you are in, turn the lights on full or as a test, turn the lights off to see if the buzz level improves. RF/EMI will easily induce into the pups. Some handle this better by design, others (single coils) not so much.

I use very good electricity in a professional music studios and rehearsal spaces and whether I play the House of Blues or the no name bar down the street I still have the same problem. I've tried everything. Drives me nuts. I emailed lakland and have yet to receive a response. it'll be easy to get it fixed because I live about 45 min from the Lakland factory.

I just want to say that I'm absolutely in love with the aesthetics of almost all Laklands that I see. Sadly, I haven't been won over by the Skylines to the point where I just sell everything to get one, but I also haven't had the chance to play anything more than a Skyline because no one wants to carry US Laklands in KS! Although I'm not really in the market (being as though I'm 18 and college is around the bend), I think I'll fall in love with one once I get my hands on a US Lakland.

Brooks....all in due time...as others have said, ordering a US sight unseen is nver an issue....see how College bills go and then....who knows!

I am sure you will flip for US Laklands when you do finally play one. I did!
I bought 5 US Laklands sight unseen and never played one first and was VERY impressed with each and every one of them.
I would say if you find yourself in financial position to shell out for one , yet cannot play it first, buy it anyway!! hahaha!! you WILL love it.

Because, if for example, two ash/maple 44-94s sound different from each other then wouldn't you expect them to sound MORE different if variables WERE altered... like fretboard wood?

JJ, glad you brought up Mr. Pedigo. It was a conversation with him that shaped my thinking on this topic. It's been a few years, so I can't quote him precisely, but the gist of it was he believed fretboard wood had little to no tonal impact. I would expand on this, but I'm on my phone right now, don't like to type long posts on it.

Got it.. It was just a loose definition of a Lakland xx-07 model.

JJ's is truly a one off Hot Bass.

Yeah, I don't know if they'd officially built or decided on the name "xx-07" yet when I contacted Carl wanting MM cased Chi-buckers and an LH-3 pre put in my wacky 55-94. All the LOGers were talking about Decades and their wild new thunderous pickups. We were all trying to get our mitts on some. It was only recently that I realized that it qualifies as an 07 .

Now Gordon will be rocking Sexual Chocolates original old Bart pups n pre in the 55-02 fretless that's on it's way to him.

Well, technically speaking, a xx-07 would be built with the following:

- Lakland LH3 Pre
- Lakland xx-94 Body
- ChiSonic pickups with metal housings

Ill admit, it took me some time o get use to that bass's styling. The one off body is cool and made by a Lakland employee with Lakland neck, guts, and other hardware. That's where the "loose definition" phrase comes from.

I suppose with the lights off or eyes closed, sonically, it'd be close to what I'd personally consider a xx-07 to be.
