Thanks for the congrats everyone! I do have a question. The bass came with a really nice tweed/leather HS case, but I'd like to get an SKB case or something along those lines for it because I do plan on gigging with it quite a bit and want to keep the original case nice. Any recommendations or suggestions?

yes, the body shape are same between 4 and 5 ers, right? and no problem with the 35" scale. And ShowKing's pink beauty is a 5er, IIRC.

Hey Clay, seriously, cases just take space (imagine the bump in shipping costs?) and I would not want my Lakland in the gig bags they send with Fenders.
yup...shipping would go way up! a nice Gig bag would be nice but that would also make costs and shipping go up....

Lakland has ALWAYS made many many more Skylines than US models. their business model (along those lines) has really not changed lately...well, except for the fact that thecompany is now more open to (as you say) "custom" orders and options.

I totally agree with ya Texan.
Lakland built a very strong rep on the quality of their USA Basses.
Now it looks like they are leaning towards the mass produced Skylines as their Bread n Butter.
And doing small volume on custom order US basses.
If they are charging $1,200 and higher for import basses, I think they should have at least a cheap gig bag made with the skyline logo on it to include with the purchase and protect the bass during transit from scratches and blems.
Plus it just "finishes" the sale with a token logo bag.

Competition is stiff out there.
G&L & Musicman put out one heck of an American made bass for under $1,400 (Very close to Import Skyline prices).
Lakland will need to address little things like this to remain competitive in the under $1,500 marketplace IMO.
I just picked up a 44-02 and a 55-02D here on TB and really love them, though I am trading the 55-02D for a Bongo
Quick question, does anyone know who, besides Moses Graphite, can make custom necks for a 44-02?

I just played my LOG bass at a gig saturday (pics and etcon teh LOG site) and it sounded awesome!
I disagree...you SHOULD be able to get a Skyline case for $120 to $150 or so....
I was going to say SKB....had a form fitting one fvor my BG4...actually liked the case alot...
...what he said...but these are $145 .....
...I TRIED that a few times....did not work for me either...
would make a GREAT cover for a Christmas card...

I would say it goes un said they make and always have made more skylines...
Since the invent of Skylines...Would be hard to pump out those kind of numbers from a US shop.
As the owner of 3 amazing rare Bongos..and 3 amazing rare USA Laklands...
I can honestly say they are all truly amazing basses.
So congrats on getting the Bongo.
