Lakland Owners Group #61

I love my 55-02d. But I occasionally start to get this kind of a craving. I really really desperately want a fretless Lakland fiver. I know that 55-01's can be had fretless. But I kind of prefer the Jazz body shape. And I'm poor. So it would have to be a Skyline.

So when there was a Skyline DJ5, was there ever a FRETLESS Skyline DJ5?

And if they do exist, does anyone ever sell them?

I finally found some time to take some glamor-shots of my own!

US Bob Glaub BG414, 1 1/2" nut, brought back to its former glory with a Neopunch PUP reinstalled:

I don't know about the DJ's b/c of the matching headstocks but they keep fretless necks around for everything, for a small up charge for a new bass or you can buy a fretless neck on it's own.

Thanks Doude, glad you weren't too sore about the Dougy Road photo. I would have used another photo of you, but there weren't any others of you lying around. :D

Let's just put it this way "umbra" is Latin for shadow - and it's not completed obscured in shadow due to the maple headstock - so "Penumbra."

There was also a second date at the base of the neck - sometime in Feb of 2011, forgot to write the exact date down.

thanks for the clarification...makes sense now...

"...but there weren't any others of you lying around...." sheesh!!!

You misinterpreted what I was saying. I played 6ers exclusively w/ wide necks for over 15 years. But the string spacing at the nut was still roughly jazz or Stingray style (equal to a 1.5" or 1.65" 4 string). Prior to switching to 6ers in '93, it was the same: jazz or stingray nut width 4 string basses. It's the spacing, not the width.

gottcha JJ...makes sense now...

Love these!! The PALE and the DARK.

was going to say "Ying and Yang" and "spy vs. Spy" BUT Rhino beat me to it....see what happens when you travel too much and don't play your bass enough and don't get on line enough? all of the good lines get used...

Thanks all!
The Yin and Yan, Spy vs. Spy, the Panda Duo...

Ah come on, like I wasn't going to get rid of the chrome and tort :D

see ^

Yeah, but there's a lightyear's difference between 'Geezer's getting a hot new bass' and 'Lakland's getting a new sig model.' The second one wasn't really all that clear.

Also, LOG site needs to get Tapatalked so that I can actually head over from time to time. You know: Bend over backwards for me, just because I'm a great guy? Yeah, yeah...

this MAY STILL be a sig model....AND I hear the "other bass" may be a model some day as well....

+1 on that!

Or at least change the white text on black background nonsense

:hiding: :D

Ah, gotcha - yes it was a nice surprise indeed.

Both requests are coming very soon... really, they are :D

well....coming - yes...soon? that all depends.....we got kinda de-railed.....:hmm:

hope to be back on track soon....hope.... hope....hope,.

One more shot... full frontal

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

love full frontal shots....

I don't know what would be more apt to turn someone into a serial killer,
Beavis and Butthead, or all 6 seasons of Lost, then that stupid ending.

LOL.....

What he said.

Very comfortable playing string and the tension is very even... and now that I can play nickel again, a very warm, even tone all across the board.

good to know...

now THAT is awesomeness right there!

how do you like the CHIs?

I love the color and the grain on this one....I think they came out a little ore towards red than burgandy...which I like better.....

I'm going to get this on Saturday. Any opinions on it?

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

NBD!! Well, it came yesterday so I guess DANBD, but day 1 was spent playing and didn't get around to posting until day 2...

Wasn't expecting this until Tuesday so getting her on Saturday of a 3 day weekend is a giant bonus!

Skyline DJ4 in Trans Burgundy with ChiSonics. Had to wait a few weeks for the pickup mod from the factory, but worth every excruciating minute of waiting.

Love, love, loving her...

Couldn't resist the gratuitous dog photo...love her a bunch too...

GAAAAH, trans burg with chis!!!!! aaaaaah, must resist mind control ray!!!!!

congrats on that beauty.

ha ha ha....there are a few left Gary....and your B-ady is coming up...not that "I" am offering....BUT you can throw some suggestions around the house....you NEED a new DJ....you do. :D

I'm really not a fan of that color on the Decade, but love it on the DJ. Must be the difference of the Ash, as opposed to the Mahogany

I think the Decades are nice looking but YES...YES YES....this looks even cooler IMHO....

^ what he said...even better in person...

Thanks for all the compliments!
I'd played a couple of DJs and loved them, but blue, white or silver just don't do it for me so I never really seriously considered one (shallow I know, but you're lying to yourself if you say color doesn't matter).
So I was looking to get a new J and had pretty much decided on an American Deluxe J in wine transparent when I ran across these from Bass Club Chicago.
I was going to get the J-Retro installed, but then played a friend's Decade and REALLY dug the Chi-Sonics.
Always a little anxious about buying a bass that I can't play first, but they really nailed this one. The pics don't really do the finish justice...the grain is beautiful.
Then there's the neck...just fantastic. Craftsmanship all around is impeccable.
And the sound...well...wow!
I don't see the love affair ending anytime soon. My other basses are gonna be jealous!

...and light I bet....the last batch of skylines seemed pretty light...

the CHIs have a GREAt "edgy" tone to them....

Agreed, must be the grain, gives it a reason to be trans...

yup...gotta ne that...

*gasp*

That is one of the best looking basses I think I've ever seen. I knew that Laklands in general were on my GAS list, but that is truly remarkable...I'm not sure if I'll be able to get that out of my mind anytime soon! It might be time to start selling some gear and saving some money!!!

better hurry...these are a limited run....

Interesting... skylines have DJ's signature. My new skyline Lake Placid Blue does aswell.
Maybe they forgot a minor detail?

dunno why the sig is not on the red/burgandy ones....I noticed that too....maybe because these are LEs???

DOGGIE DOGGIE DOGGIE!!!!

Love that pic! The bass is nice too! I love the finish and I'm sure it sounds awesome.

squirrel??? squirrel??? where??? (sorry...had to add that....those of you with young kids will understand)

this is an Limited Edition, the LPB regular ones do, yes they have the sig. Maybe its because its an LE?

Darn it....caught in the time machine again!

My thoughts exactly.

yup.....what I said (only later on....)

WAHOOOO ! ! ! Brand new 55-64 headed my way from Bass Central. Three color sunburst with maple neck. Can't wait.

wahoo!!!! enjoy it and let us know how you like it....

I love mine.

It's the livest Lakland I've ever owned or played.

It became my go to after I added a Tone Hammer.

The Hammer made it perfect!

nice Orlando!!! BTW - any recent performance pics with the un-LOG LOG bass?

really have not seen too many of those 3TB ones...

Does anyone know where I can find a
replacement pick guard for my 55-64?
I'm looking at either black or tortoise shell.

Jeannie's pickguards. Satisfied customer here.

^ this...or you can email [email protected] they are making some in house as well...

The DJ AC edition also doesn't have the signature.

good point....you mean the "supposed to be" first LOG bass?

I haven't figured out how to multiquote from the new app yet, so I hope no one is offended that I'm making a group comment. I genuinely appreciate the thoughts and prayers from everyone here late last week about my dad. Sadly, he passed late in the evening on Valentine's Day and was laid to rest this morning. It's been a bumpy few days, but knowing that you all prayed for him or sent positive thoughts has been comforting. I'm glad to count you all among my friends.

sorry Melaina....public (and private) condolences coming your way.
