Greetings! Loving TalkBass, discovered some great threads this morning. Feeling very entertained and inspired to post loads :)

My JO5 is also my first 5-string. Had it a year and loving it. Bought it from a BassChatter in the UK. Not gigged with it yet, but my main practice bass. Bit of fret noise has crept in.

Any advice or maintenance tips for these beauties?

What a beauty!

I have its bigger brother ....5 string with the same set up.....yours is older I get though...and was used for the chi sound clips!

Congrats....

Is there a difference in tone between these and the Drop ins"? Just curious to see how close they sound

Yes.... Sexual Chocolate's colors compliment my badazzz strap very well!

I gigged with M'Fallice (my sparkle Ray) Friday. If you did the Facebook thing, you'd see how the strap looked in gig pics. Or get on a pc and just click my link below.

Kind of funny JJ.....the "sign up for Facebook" covers pretty much of your face....I can see the strap and the sparkle Ray though...THAT looks good.

also - quite a "bass stance" you have there.....looks like a fun time! :hyper::bassist:

Thanks Doug,

I really haven't had a ton of time to mess with it but I would say the drop in chis seem to be a little more aggressive, but that could be due to the maple fretboard as well. I think the big chis are Alnico magnets and the drop ins are neo. I really like the sound of both.

Lee sent me a video of Ian Allison playing this bass prior to my acquisition of it where he says its the first JO to get chisonics, and yes it was used for the soundclips on the website. I need to put some new strings on it and give it a couple more hours, but first impressions are very good.

Nice!

I thought they were the same magnets.....learn something new every day!

Congrats on chi numero uno!

That is a unique bass for sure

Thanks Mr. F. The bass is tremendous and I love the RW w/ maple dots. Its no one-of-a-kind buckeye top... but its perfect for me.

Also, just installed an Audere JZ-6 in Goldie and she sounds primo with the Chis. I actually prefer it to the J-Retro (even though there are about 100 knobs).

It is a killer bass...I saw it around here before and drooled over it then. Great score for sure, congrats!
I have a rosewood board with the BEM dots on the Scheff and HB. It really does look awesome!
I like the Chi singles in the single case. I think ALL single coil Chi's should have been placed in a narrow single case.
Rather than some of them having the humbucker case.

For sure. Next one I'm after is probably going to be a decade...

Thank Greg. It's really a cool bass. I put new strings on last night and set her up how I like and she is just killer. Great punch out of the chis, neck is flawless and fast, great variety of tones (even, dare I say, p bassy tone out of neck pup). I sorta can't believe I got Lee to sell it to me...

Very nice, congrats! I had its near-twin, the only difference was mine had a maple board. I love that finish.

You're dang lucky that two things are true:

1) I don't like ice metallic blue

2) I would have felt SO GUILTY refinishing this amazing bass. It was sort of a thing were I felt, either love it 100% or find someone who will.

That being said, you certainly came after me :) you know how special the bass is in terms of feel and sound. Definitely didn't want to let it go...but hey! It's found the right home :hyper:

So I shouldn't refinish it in neon pink w/ a matching headstock? Its funny, with the exception of Goldie (which nearly became Daphne) all my basses are now green or blue. Maybe I should think about some variety...
