So,, decision time!

Do I get a custom pickguard made up for the DJ. At the cost of time and $$$$ expense? Or do I go with what Jennies/Lakland has designed?

Any one else ever noticed how strange the guard is???

Too pointy on the upper horn part and doesn't even follow the lower horns cut-away contour as well as being too pointy??

I have had good luck with quickguards for laklands. Both the ice blue chi JO and the 44-64 both have them. Flat black looks sweet on ice blue.

Also, I have a redeemer in one of my basses and as long as the battery fits the cavity you won't have any problems with it.

Pickguard,it's a template shape thing. Basically I don't agree with the Jennies/lakland decision on shape.I know I'll get a mint guard that part is decided.

So to get what I'd like I need to have a custom template made up. Which will total at like $180......:hmm::hmm:

Yeah, I have never liked that sharp pointy lower horn. Just does not match. But, that is also a steep price for a custom job. Jessh, glad I don't have to make this decision :)

I used to have a DJ and the guard never bothered me. I thought it was a great-looking bass overall. Perhaps slight refinements to the guard would make the bass look even better (subjectively), but the cost/reward ratio would not work for me. My two cents.:)

You can trace the guard on a piece of construction paper, mod it to your liking & have Mike @ http://www.quickguards.com/ cut you a new one.
He's a great guy, does awesome work, reasonable rates & his turn around time is quick!

+ 1 to this. Here are 2 basses with pickguards from Mike Quick. ALso, to anyone wondering about the 44-64 LE, this is the color compared to Ice Blue. You can see that it is definitely not Inca Silver.

Man, please tell me that you intend to play these two live while while wearing a powder blue tux or polyester pants and silk print shirt a la 1976...I love the look of the 44-64!

We were at a huge arena...really though to see....sounds like you had great seats,.....

Rush is at Milwaukee's Sunmerfest this summer...so maybe...just maybe....

Yeah they had the string section which sounded good on the new album
But was kinda cheesy when they played YYZ
Glad they didn't use it for the 2112 encore

The arena at the casino was small, maybe 6000
So we could see real well
We were like 25 rows back
And yeah the smell of bad pot was everywhere

I like the new album
First one in like thirty years that I actually got in to
glad I went because I probably won't get out to see them again
Lots of other great musicians to go see

Yup, that's the new 44-64 LE. Looks pretty sweet with the PG, notice I got a black PG for the ice blue chi too! Gecko, that bass on the left is a custom painted parts bass. It's color changer paint that goes from blue to green. I have it for sale in the classifieds... Wait till you all see what I just traded for now....

Our new "Terry" :D ?? (the old timers will know what I mean...).....BUT you are keeping them so far....so you are just in acquisition mode...

I cannot wait to see....

email [email protected]

he should be able to do what you want without too much extra $$$$.....see what he says....he is the master of Lakie parts...

BTW - LOVE that color....

nope...not inca but a sweet color IMHO....the pair look good together.

I know, but now 5 of my 7 basses are blue... Haha. Actually, the 44-64 is just unreal. I'm not a huge p bass player so dropping 2k on one is a little silly for me so this bass is pretty much perfect. The neo punch pickup sounds great and the neck on this one is just sick. It is hands down the best import bass I have ever played. Oh, its super light too.
