Thanks. It's amazing how different this one sounds from the US Osborn. Love 'em both, but what a difference.
So does a Jazz with Chi-sonics sound like a Jazz but "on steroids" and hotter? I think after a gazillion years and a half gazillion J basses, I think maybe I realized I just don't like the Jazz sound. A Jazz with Chi's (or installing Chi's in one I have) has been on my GAS list for awhile, but perhaps it still won't do it for me.

I should also note that both of these (Skyline jo5, US Osborn) have the factory Lakland pickups. I'd love to check out a Chi-equipped Lakland!
Having owned one, I'd say your description is pretty close. Hotter output, more mids, less treble--I eventually tried steels, whereas I'm normally a nickel guy. I don't get along with J basses, either, but this was the closest I came to keeping one. Sounds great with flats, by the way.
Yes, the Chis are much hotter than J pickups. They do not really sound like Js at all, especially in the bridge position. I really like the way they sound passive, but when I ran them through a preamp, I was a little underwhelmed... Maybe it was just a bad preamp though...
Chis have a sizzle to them that is unlike other jazz-style pickups. At least that's how I would describe what's going on in my ears. That's why I use flats on mine, as it tames the undesirable part of the sizzle for me and warms them up a bit. Most preamps will bring that sizzle aspect more to the forefront, in my experience.
Interesting analysis... That is sorta what I do not like, the preamp accentuates the tinniness of the pickups, where it really evens out more vintage toned pickups.
My Skyline Chi 44-60 LE doesn't like TI JF344 flats all that much. To me the flats take away some of the punch of the Chis. With GHS Pressurewounds, all good. What flats have you guys been digging with Chi-Sonics in a jazzer?

I've been digging Pressurewounds on my DJ4. I used to use them on fretless back in the day but forgot about them until recently.
I really like your Chi 44-60. If it were a bit lighter and a diff color, I'd be all over it. Plus 5 of my 6 Laklands are up in the classifieds atm - I need the count to go down before it goes back up!
I just use DRs on everything, all the time. Have a set of DR Nickels on one of my Bluesman Jazzes, but everything else has DR Hi Beams or Fat Beams.
I used to run TI flats on my jazz because I didn't like the brightness of the pickups, but that was early on in my playing. I've since come to love rounds on a jazz, evidenced by the circle k's on my dj5 (by the way, I received a slew of compliments this morning about both the looks and the sound of the dj5, and I'm really loving the circle k's). I already put TI flats on my Glaub, so much goodness going on with that combination!

I sent the neck to world renowned cosmetic surgeon Pat Wilkins... so, nothing serious or negative. That is just pretty much my favorite bass and I miss playing it.
