Already had a 55-02 so I gladly welcome my second Lakland, my new DJ-5 I picked up today from Bass Club. (*the pics are from another shop- didn't take pics of mine yet but these will have to do

This makes me miss my DJ5! I can hardly wait to get it back from Pat!
Anyone know the difference between the Lakland/Hanson P4 Vintage and the P4 Neo punch? I'm feeling the need to roll pickups and am considering the Fender '62's, Fralins, or the P4 Vintage. It currently has Duncan QP's.
Hanson's Vintage tries to cop the vintage Fender tone. IMO Fralin does that best. Neopunch is like the chi-sonics of P pickups, and is more of a modern tone. I've never had a bass with the QPs.
Ya, I love the QP's. They sound great with flats. I'm just wanting another set around the house for when I need that truly vintage Motown or Stax sound.
I didn't care for the neo punch, they were between vintage and modern, just not my thing.

the clear guard is very cool
the P4 vintage is very similar in sound to a Fralin. I know because I had a BGPJ with Fralin pickups and "had to sell it" when I got my PJ5 (BIG mistake!!!)...I REALLY missed the Fralin sound.
When I got my LOG bass I ordered it with the Vintage "hoping" for something similar sounding...man was I happy! I also have the Vintage pickups in White Lightning....
the Neos are much more modern sounding...
If you like the Fralin you will love the vintage...

We did do "MY Girl" (you mentioned Motown) but the guitar is non existent and the bass is sometimes drowned out by the drums so you cannot hear it at times.
I do have a few other clips from the same day if you want others....
Marcel is doing GREAT work....stay tuned.
I had the neo punch in my surf green Glaub when I first got it, then swapped it out for a vintage. I've also tried the Fralins and the Fender '62s. Tried a QP briefly and didn't care for it; too scooped for my taste. The Hanson neo has the strongest upper mid response, and it isn't even close.
The Hanson vintage is the same pickup with the neodymium magnet removed, I believe. Definitely more old-school; in the Fender camp to my ears, but with a little less top end. Stout in the low mids, and it still gets a good grind going when it's paired with rounds and I hit the strings hard. I love it.

Started doing something really interesting. Last week at church ran nothing in line to the DI, no EQ setting on the 55-02...just the raw signal. It sounded great!
Today, I did it again and the old Lakie just sounded freaking great. I've always liked my 55-02, and the more I play it the more I like it.
I hit some low D notes during a quiet part of the song and got a couple of "Amens".

that is how I ALWAYS run...except I have an in-line tuner....
Played my CB550 HH fretless (LH3 and dual Hanson humbuckers) for the entire service today and ...as you say....It just sounded GREAT!!! I even used it on some of the more rocking songs....it fit in just fine.
IMHO...Lakies/Carlos do not need all kinds of effects to sound great....
...and the Low D is pretty present.....used it a few times myself today.

nice tone, now about those video-making skills....
I think he was going for that surreal effect....kinda like the "hand held camera" movies that are so popular today...
