Lakland Owners Group #69

Changed the stock vintage pups in my JO5 to a set bartolini 5J HC. I really enjoy bass more now. To my ear, the vintages are too mid heavy, running it with my TH500, which is mid heavy too, was too much. Sounded like I lost bottom end, but not with the Bart's.

glad you like the switch!

each of us has a different ear.....and that is a good thing!

Does anyone know if Lakland under their new ownership would ever do a one-off of the 4-94 XS? I know just a handful of these were made but even with 4's, I really only like 35" scale which is why most of the time I'll grab my 55-94 over my NS5 if it comes right down to it.
I've always been intrigued by this bass but since they're impossible to buy on the used market, I'm wondering if they'd build one to the old specs?

find out and let us know......JP and Bo are pretty open to ideas!!!

Sounds like a cool build. good luck with the ebony. I've asked before for that and was not well received.

Oh yeah???? hmmmm....I have 3 ebony fretted..2 Lakland necks and one Carlo neck...maybe the WAY you asked Gman.... :)

don't really know why they would say no....especially if you pay more...

Maybe better luck now that they are doing some CNC work in house....

It's in the house! WOW!! Love the tone from these humbuckers! So HUGE! But very clear! Fit and finish is perfect! Love the Birdseye neck, and glad I didn't mount the guard...plan on putting screw heads in the guard and going back and forth with the guard/nude.

Looking sweet there Markus!!!

Grab a long neck and play your shorty!!!!

Every time I see that BEM I get more excited...

Picked up an '08 DJ 4 this week off GC's used site. Arrived via the brown truck and it beat my expectations. Very very clean bass. One little chip on the edge of the headstock, other than that, looks like it was a case queen. Plays great, looks great, sounds great! Black sparkle , lakie p'ups, hard case, 800 bucks. I'm a happy camper!

"it beat my expectations."

sweet! glad to hear it!!!

isn't that sparkle something? I almost want another DJ JUST for the black sparkle...

Haha, I was kidding. Hulk Hogan used to say "whatcha gonna do brother when Hulkamania runs wild on you?"

Sorry... WWF was an integral part of my childhood, which may explain certain things.

NOW DIS was a "real" wrestler!!!

Did I ever mention that I put a Pope Flex Core preamp, Aguilar MM pickup and Nordstrand Jazz pickup in my 1996 55-94? Well, I did. It really breathed new life into that bass. It's much brighter now and hugely versatile with the 4-band EQ. The Bartolini pickups and electronics were a little muted for my taste. No regrets.

very nice Munji.....I agree with you on the Barts....

I think we need a picture of your JO bass (you KNOW the one!)

I'm very interested in your opinion.

me too....

="lomo, post: 16403427, member: 71668"]Spent an hour or so alone with the Aggie electronics and I have to say this is quite a beastly combination-a very wide range of tones and extremely powerful eq....tons of punch available on tap. The one I got has no pull/passive option and no mid shift capability-I don't know whether those features are doable with the OBP 3 or not. I will spend some more time A/B ing it with my Lace equipped 5501. I have also started experimenting with the Joe Meek FloorQ pedal compressor in my chain and am finally learning a lot about how I want to use compression-lots of fun messing around with this......

cool...thx.

After a slight debacle with the 55-01, I received the correct bass yesterday. The original 55-01 that I received was damaged by UPS and I just glanced at it, notified Bass Central, sent them pics of the damage and put it back in the case. It wasn't until they wanted a couple of other pics at the request of UPS that I realized that they sent the wrong bass. The had the SN and pics mixed on the website. I called and we swapped basses. They had great service considering the circumstances and did everything they could to make it right. This one has a great feel, sleek neck like we all love and sounds great. The only issue was that the electronics were not functioning properly, so I popped the cover and checked the connections and didn't really see anything. I moved the position of the pre slightly and everything began to work properly. I'm guessing that the pre was grounding somehow or that it's faulty. I haven't been able to reproduce the fault again so it may be stable. I'm going to give Bo a call monday anyway and see if they will send a replacement. I'm going to use it tonight with the 55-02, Genz SM9.2 and Berg AE410. It sounds awesome at home, and can't wait to hear it in the mix at a venue.
